Billingham 307 overview

  • 1Description

The waterproof khaki with chocolate leather 307 Shoulder Bag from Billingham holds a DSLR with an attached lens, a zoom telephoto lens such as a 70-200 f/2.8, two additional lenses, a flash, and accessories between two SuperFlex touch-fastened interior dividers.

The PressTop closure features a wide rectangular frame for holding the bag open and can be zippered closed after being clamped shut. To further secure the bag, solid brass cast fittings at the front provide tough, rust-resistant ClogBall fasteners for holding the bag's weight. Creating a sculpted look, the top has a contoured main flap with a double-layered, waterproofed-seam and the interior is padded for protection. Accessories can be secured in double pockets at the front, a large zippered pocket at the back, or inside optional Delta pockets that secure to the side for extra storage.

The bags exterior features waterproof FibreNyte fabric and stain-resistant leather accents. There are dual grab handles to carry the bag, as well as a two-inch wide, webbed shoulder strap. The shoulder strap features a removable comfort pad, which is made from top-grain leather with a non-slip base layer for security. Additionally, the comfort pad is finished with heavy-duty press-studded strap guides to complement the bag and features a grooved inner core of high-density closed cell foam that molds to the shape of your shoulder.

Construction

Interior 8-15 and 9-18 SuperFlex dividers for protecting and separating your gear are designed to move aside when pushed allowing the bag to mold to wearers shape
Abrasion-resistant, man-made FibreNyte is bonded to a polyester lining with Billingham StormBlock butyl rubber
D-shaped holes on lower leather straps for attaching an optional Backpack Harness or optional Tripod Straps (5/8")
Label incorporates a micro laser engraved security strip which is your proof that the bag is a genuine Billingham
Inverted Y-shaped webbing helps prevent tipping and rolling motion as you move

Materials

FibreNyte stays true to its color and weighs 10 percent less than Billingham's traditional canvas
Strong, stain-resistant top-grain leather retains natural growth marks for a unique hide and is vegetable-tanned using natural compounds like tree bark to avoid acidic chemicals
Non-fray lining is anti-wicking to prevent any moisture from being absorbed
Zippers have teeth woven into the support tape for extra strength and to keep them flat to prevent damage to fabric or gear
Spun polyester webbing as found in parachute harnesses- stays flat, wears well, and doesn't absorb moisture to prevent deterioration
Webbing is woven on old-style looms that produce a denser, more durable weave with greater pliability than newer looms

    Billingham 307 reviews

307 Shoulder Bag (Khaki with Chocolate Leather) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW !!! Don't be fooled by its original design ... the new 307 series arrived to me with many surprises. The new fabric or canvas ... i accidentally spilled water on and it all just bounced right off. The bag is light relative to other bags with the same size. The shoulder pad comes in the package and there's also a grabber inside and outside which can be removed if not used. After zipping open the bag, carbon fibre wands makes a wide rectangular frame which holds the bag open and keeping the zipper out of the way. Absolutely a serious photographers companion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality, looks and a must have I had to buy this elsewhere bc it was out of stock at B&H. Very pleased with it. Padding is very good with removable velco dividers, lots of pockets including one that holds an Ipad (original generation and newer models). Shoulder strap is very comfortable. I can fit a Canon 7D with battery grip and a 70-200 2.8 L series lens horizontally across the bottom and a 17-55 2.8 in one of the sleeves that come with it along with the Canon charger, lens hoods and doubler. Excellent quality and build/made to last. Expensive but worth it - I will have this bag for the next 20 years. Note that I tried 2 lowepro sling shot bags which admittedly are a different style and returned them both replacing them with this model. BUY IT. You wont be sorry

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All you need in a camera bag This bag is fantastic, and my search for the perfect camera bag has ended. The bag is deceptively large inside - I've had larger-looking bags that had half the room inside, but the 307 seems to be the opposite. This doesn't mean that you lose stuff inside it. The dividers do their job perfectly, and all my equipment is always snug. My usual load is a Mamiya 7 with the 80mm, a 5D2 with two of the following: 28mm 1.8, 40mm 2.8 or 35 1.4, plus a couple of packets of cigarettes, wallet, cards, film (up to two boxes of 120), sunnies etc. Even fully loaded up, the bag strap is comfortable, with a non-slide finish. Some say the price is a 'con' for the bag, I say for the price you pay you get the best, and that's how it should be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The pro elegant choise Amazing work put into every spect of this bag. The Y shaped Sling makes carrying this bag a real pleasure. The most important feature of this bag as far as I concern is the press top opening, as a proud owner of several Lowe bags, there's always something between you and your equipment, this is not the case here. When purchasing this bag, one should consider extra inserts by Billingham, a little pricy but worthy every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Judge this book by it's cover! This bag is well thought out. You can see at once that photographers were called in for input when it was designed. I can put all essentials in the bag and then 4 lenses hand picked for the subjects at hand. Great looking from the outside and practical and safe on the inside. My favourite bag along with or instead of my photo backpack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from At last a bag that works for wide lenses I shoot mainly landscapes but travel and sometimes architecture too. I carry one or two full-format Nikons (D750 & Df), and I wanted a bag to carry an ultra-wide zoom, a wide zoom, a 30mm, as well as a standard zoom mounted on the camera body. Sometimes I also bring a telephoto or a perspective control lens. Given the width of many of these lenses, it seems each bag I get is never quite big enough. And with heavily padded bags, the outside is incoveniently large for what it can carry. When I can be careful and need fewer lenses, I carry a lightly padded Domke bag. But Billingham's claim to offer padding that molds to the body struck me as just right--and it is. The bag is padded sufficiently but not so thickly it gets in the way. It also seems very well made. I debated between the 307 and the 335 which is nearly the same size but $$less. The biggest difference between the two is the 307 is 2 deeper--a significant difference if you want to put a body/lens on top of the gear already in the bag. The 307 also has a hinged rigid opening that makes removing lenses easier and holds the zipper away from LCD screens. The shoulder strap is wider and padded better. While I liked the exterior size of the 335 (and the sage/leather color was nice), it felt--like so many bags over the years--strained to accept the same load the 307 swallowed effortlessly. And despite the 307's plentiful room, it doesn't feel big to wear. For such similar bags, it's surprising how different their functionality is. The 307 also supports weight quite well, and it can easily hold a water bottle or two in pockets at opposite ends of the bag. It looks less like a camera bag than a piece of luggage, although, maybe the one drawback other than price, it does look like the expensive bag it is, a drawback for attracting the wrong people's attention.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This bag should be around for a while I really like this bag - it is extremely well made (it is priced accordingly) and well thought out. I bought the smallest bag possible that could fit a DSLR, three lenses, speed light, charging equipment and assorted accessories, as well as strap a full size travel tripod to the outside of the bag (with accessory straps bought separately). Although I have only just started using the 307, it does the job well, it is easy to access equipment, either from the shoulder or when you put the bag down - it doesn't fall over like backpack styled bags tend to. Although very solidly made, it doesn't feel heavy and this may be down to the well padded and shaped shoulder strap. The only thing stopping me from giving the Billingham 307 an extra star is that I haven't lived with it long enough to declare it flawless. But if you are thinking about a camera bag that can swallow a surprising amount of gear and feels like it will last a life time, this one is worth the extra investment.
