If TVs were issued passports an application would come with every Full HD (1920 x 1080p) resolution Sharp LC-40L50M 40" Multi System LCD TV. In fact if you really need all of this set's features we imagine you probably lead a pretty interesting life.
This jet setter can handle a number of variations of NTSC, PAL and SECAM video signals and it's got a 110 - 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz power supply so we're guessing it'll work in a large number of countries around the world. It's a good thing the power cord can be unplugged from the set. The 40L50M can handle the juice but you may need a different type of power cord (available separately) to match the country you're in.
No matter where you are you can enjoy 720p, 1080i and 1080p high definition programming and you've got three HDMI ports to carry the picture and audio to the set in pure digital form.
This set also boasts 24 and 25 fps (frames per second) modes for the 1080i and 1080p resolutions. An increasing number of movies on DVD and Blu-ray are encoded that way and most recent players can decode them. It doesn't do anything special when you're just watching TV but it makes movies on DVD and Blu-ray look smoother and more like they looked in the theater.
Your 40L50M is not only versatile, it's tricked out with some really cool features. LCD screens are illuminated from behind by backlights. With the OPC (Optical Picture Control) feature turned on the brightness of the backlight is matched to the ambient light in the room. If you like to watch movies in the dark like you do in a theater not only will you get a better picture but you'll save some pennies and reduce your carbon footprint a smidge.
Another cool feature is PAP. That's the jargon for side by side "picture and picture." This set has only one tuner so you can't watch two TV channels at once but you can mix signals from various inputs. Some combos aren't possible (like watching PAL and NTSC simultaneously) but the limitations are completely described in the manual.
One feature you might get addicted to when watching sports is Freeze Frame. Hit the Freeze button on the remote and the screen instantly splits into two halves. One side contains the picture frozen exactly as it was at the moment you hit the Freeze button. The other side of the screen shows the continuing action. Hit Freeze again and you're back to a normal picture.
Your 40L50M can also do that HDMI CEC thing. Every manufacturer has its own brand name for it and Sharp's is AQUOS LINK. It's simple. With HDMI CEC you can control all of your components that are connected by HDMI cables from a single remote.
So when your toddler tosses the TV remote into the fish tank, just use say, your Blu-ray remote, to run your home entertainment equipment while you're waiting for the replacement remote you ordered to arrive. And move or cover that fish tank so your future major leaguer doesn't dunk the new remote too.
