    WindTech MM-51 reviews

MM-51 Mic-Muff Fitted Fur Windscreen is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay but not great I bought the MM-51 for use with a Zoom H2 recorder. The instructions say it is meant to be used over the foam windscreen that comes with the recorder, but I found it to be an extremely tight fit, almost unuseable. Then, the second time I put it on, the elastic band broke. Now it fits okay! Hmmm. I would have given it 2 stars before the band broke, now do I give it more stars because it now fits or fewer because of shoddy construction? I gave it the one more, but your experience may be different! There are better wind muffs available, but they are about twice the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth it Although I found this product do be a little pricey for a windscreen, it does it's job well, blocking out scratchy sound from wind. I would recommend this to anyone who may find themselves recording sound on their zoom outdoors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The perfect dead cat My zoom h4n does come with a wind protector, but using it in several documentary jobs it didn't really get the job done. In my last doko shoot I used the MM-51 Mic-Wind shield in a heavy wind situation and the sound came out nice and clearI'm not sure the materials its made of are gonna last for a long time since it has shed a few hairs lately but for the money it cost me it's a great little zoom accessory. For conclusion, I highly recommend it

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wrong size for the H2n At the Camera store the recommend this windscreen but actually it is to small it don't fits perfect and i cant use some buttons as play an menu with it on, the problem are not exactly the button is that the area which it cover its not the accurate it slightly smaller, so each time use i need to be shure that cover perfect but no the wind hit de bottom so it a waste of money

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not fit the recorder I could not get the wind screen to fit the Tascam DR-100 MK-II. It was too small, so I returned the item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well I lost the stock foam cover for my H4n and ordered this as my replacement. The WindTech instructions say that you should use a foam cover under this, but when I called them they said that notation was a mistake for this model and it would work fine without the foam cover under it. In my first test using this fur windscreen alone it worked great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well on a Zoom H2 Compared to the similar Rycote I have (also from B&H), I prefer the Mic-Muff. The elastic opening slips on and holds it easily, although it should be used without a foam windscreen underneath. It's not big enough to accommodate the foam, but in my test it is slightly more transparent in sound yet works as well against wind roar. Perhaps it's the longer fur length. In truly high wind, it degrades the roar to a muffled, very usable background noise and leaves speech very usable. On the H2 it can be partially slipped on to keep readouts visible, or pulled all the way down - doesn't seem to matter for output. Given its transparency indoors, effectiveness in wind, easier installation and lower price, the Mic-Muff is the one that will be front-line for my uses. I initially decided to try it because the Rycote was a nuisance to install and I'm not a fan of the Velcro-style cinch tab, and I'm adverse to equipment that adds to the ordeal of unpacking and setting up. It's another distraction from getting to the end result.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blocks wind noise well We have been hesitant to take our handheld recorders outside because of the horrible amount of wind noise they would pick up. Now we can take them out any time! I tested it in the biggest wind tunnel I could find and it worked really well.
