Can you remove the ball mount, allowing the flat end to be attached to the 3/8 -16 of a Manfrotto slider plate?
There have been reports of the ball base being removed from Sachtler heads. However, this is not a normally recommended procedure and thus not supported by Sachtler. You proceed on your own recognizance.

The principle difference between the no-longer-made 20p and the present 20 S1 is that the 20 S1 can be adjusted all the way down to 4 lbs in order to work with much lighter cameras such as DSLR's.
