MuxLab 500000 Overview

The Muxlab 500000 CCTV Modular BNC Balun is a video extender that allows a single CCTV video signal to be transmitted via a Cat3/5E/6 cable, eliminating the need for coaxial cable. Providing a hassle-free cabling solution, it connects to CCTV security / surveillance equipment that includes cameras, IP camera encoders, video switchers, sequencers, multiplexers, DVRs, and camera servers. The balun can also be used with other composite baseband video equipment such as DVD players, cable boxes, media servers and audio-video monitors.

The modular balun is used in pairs to transmit standard composite video and supports transmission of color signals up to 1200' via Cat3; it can be extended to 2200' via Cat5/5E or a higher version. For black and white signals, the maximum transmission distance is up to 1500' via Cat3 (can extended up to 2500' via Cat5/6). The BNC balun uses RJ-45 reverse polarity sensitive connectors with a configuration of Pin 7 (Ring) and Pin 8 (Tip).

Made of ABS fire retardant plastic, the compact modular balun measures 1.75 x .75 x 1.00" (4.44 x 1.9 x 2.54 cm), and features low return loss that ensures maximum power transfer with no line faults between the input and output. Besides using Cat3/5/6 as a cost-effective alternative to coaxial cabling, the balun also makes changes / additions to modular outlet connections faster and easier.

Buy them in pairs and just connect with a cat5E or cat6. The balun itself is narrow and light-weight. I had no problem fitting it directly to the TV. Wire is so cheap it justifies the cost over what I would have spent on a long video cable (and a cleaner signal over long runs). Muxlab has several different models that look similar - don't overthink it. Just get a matched pair.

Works great!

We are running video from our sanctuary to our nursery with a distance of 300 feet via Cat5e sheilded cables and they do great as long as it composite video and not coaxial. We tried the coaxial hook up at that distance and the picture and sound was real fuzzy. So we put some composite adapters on the ends they are great. We have to use 1 cable for video and another cable for sound (the white color). So we had to buy 4 of these.
