Slik 500DX overview

  • 1Description

Slik's PRO 500HD Tripod with 3-Way Panhead w/Quick Shoe is constructed from an aluminum, magnesium, and titanium alloy that provides sturdy support for up to 11 lb (5 kg), at a maximum height of 65" (1.65 m) and a minimum of 25.7" (65.2 cm). A sliding center column, lever leg locks and all-weather rubber grips make the Pro 500HD versatile and easy to use. With the center column reversed, a working height of 13.9" (35.31cm) is possible. The included three-way pan head has two pan and tilt handles, and is very easy to operate. A convenient four-way quick shoe can be mounted in any direction.

Super Alloy A.M.T
Slik A.M.T. (Aluminum-Magnesium-Titanium) alloy offers an exceptional strength-to weight ratio more than 40% greater than other similar Slik tripods.
Grooved Tubular Legs
The groove, in the already dynamically strong circular tubing, prevents the leg from spinning around and allows simple, secure locking. It also lets you to extend the leg from any section, regardless of the order.
Lever Locks
The PRO 500HD features simple-to-use lever locks for quick set-up.
Reversible Center Column
The center column height is easily adjusted; just loosen the locking collar and pull up. Camera height and direction can be adjusted in one motion. The gearless and detachable center column can be inverted for extremely low angle positioning.
Three-Position Leg Angles
The legs on the PRO 500HD can me set to three different leg angles for stable positioning on inclined or uneven ground
Three-Way, Two-Handle Panhead
The easy to operate panhead makes camera positioning easy. It features two separate locking handles for simple panning and tilting.

    Slik 500DX reviews

PRO 500HD Tripod with 3-Way Panhead with Quick Shoe is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 81.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tripod As a 30-year professional I've owned a lot of tripods from flimsy beginners to large and heavy for 4x5 cameras. I shoot stills only, mainly architecture and corporate so needed a versatile tripod for a variety of assignments. The Slik Pro 500HD was a great choice for me. It's very well built with good materials and sturdy. Legs and tilts all lock tightly and securely. I use an older Canon body, very heavy, and this tripod can easily handle it even with a long lens. Despite what some other reviewers say, 5.9 lbs. is not heavy unless you're backpacking. I can't see paying 3x as much for carbon fiber to save 2-3 lbs. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tripod for the money! This tripod was a quick and easy purchase before I roadtripped across the country. I shoot fashion photography as well as videography, and my previous tripod broke right before the trip. I came in with 5 minutes to choose a tripod before I left and this one fit all of my criteria. I don't need anything fancy, simply something to hold my camera while I shoot tethered, but this had some pretty nice perks to it as well. The HD Pan is pretty decent, could be a bit smoother but for the money is a nice addition. My only suggestion is to have a little hook to hang some sand bags off of from the main pole, but this tripod is pretty heavy so I don't see myself needing it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value on a Solid Tripod I purchased this tripod as, hopefully, my last tripod. I use it to support my Canon 70D and a variety of lenses. I carry it on hikes and use it for portrait and tabletop shooting, too. It's smooth, stable and versatile. The camera seems very secure on the mount. I finally wanted something that could pan and tilt smoothly enough to shoot video without the jerks and bumps I'm used to in my other tripods. Though this doesn't have a ball head (I can upgrade if necessary) it operates very smoothly in all planes. The tensioner adjustments are impressive for fine tuning the degree of freedom in both tilt and pan. I think this is a great value, too. Works for me!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All I need to meet my needs After previously having a tripod that had all three legs break and spending hours looking for another to buy, I decided to go with this one for budget's sake. I mainly walk through rougher terrain in order to photograph waterfalls and landscapes. This tripod is easier to carry than my previous. It is fairly light, but very sturdy. I use a Canon 50D with 200mm lens usually and it holds it fine, without making me feel uneasy. I often have the tripod in running water when shooting and it hasn't offered to get swept downstream with the current either. Pan and tilt works like it is supposed to. Legs are easily lowered and raised. Excellent tripod with some extra features you usually wouldn't find on a tripod this price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Recovery!!! Now this is a tripod! I do a lot of video, so when I heard about the ballhead tripod I thought it would give me a smoother transition. I purchased one of these ballhead tripods and it was not at all what I had hoped it would be. After a quick return to B&H I purchased this tripod and could not be happier. It is heavy duty and easy to expand. It has special pan and tilt friction control knobs just for video. Works great!!! I would recommend for anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Met expectations While it is a little heavy, everyting else about this tripod is excellent. Smoothness of the ball panhead and ease of use are excellent. Plenty tall enough for me at 5'9. Very stable which is what I was really looking for. Highly recommend! Held my 6D with Sigma 150-600 C lens just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Bang for Your Buck under 200 I bought this tripod due to the fact that my old one broke(the adjustable clips wore out). I have to say that I'm more than pleased with my purchase. Pros: This tripod is very sturdy. It weighs a good amount and sometimes it can be more than just a tripod...almost like a workout weight but hey when it can hold my 300mm+ lenses and my camera with flash and stay completely sturdy in the wind...that makes me a happy camper. I also like the adjustability. The smooth turning ability of this tripod makes it easy to take panaramic pictures and to do quick pans that are stable and true. Cons: I found that the weight can be daunting at times. When I'm walking around town taking pictures of night scenes it can be...quite the work out. Also the tripod balance system isn't the best...I've done several test shots and found that at best it is 99% balanced but the off set can be seen so adjust accordingly. Maybe my head is just crooked. I love this tripod though. Its great. Its great value and I feel 100% sure leaving it in high winds and at off angles when the legs are set at different lengths while taking shots on uneven surfaces. Conclusion: BUY IT. I guarantee your happiness with this tripod that does more than just hold your camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great at this price point As a weekend warrior who takes his gear in the high country and on the raft this tripod and head works well without the worry of banging an expensive piece of equipment around. I can get a fluid panning shot both vertically and horizontallyI don't always get it the very first shot but I haven't had to try more than a few times to get the fluid pan we all want. This is a great step up from the cheap stuff without breaking the bank!
