Tiffen 52mm Pro-Mist 1 Filter
Key Features
  • Reduces Highlights and Lowers Contrast
  • Softens Wrinkles and Blemishes
  • Creates a Soft Quality of Light
  • ColorCore Technology
The Tiffen 52mm Pro-Mist 1 Filter helps to reduce the value of the highlights while noticeably lowering the overall contrast. This filter is especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes. While designed for use with movies, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. The 1 density provides more contrast and highlight reduction than the 1/2, but less than the 2, while also allowing for a soft, pastel-like quality of light.

Tiffen Pro-Mist Overview

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image compared to traditional diffusion and soft focus filters.

Tiffen Pro-Mist Reviews

Eh, not much of a difference in video

I'm using this on a Canon 50 MM prime cine lens (big lens) on a Canon C200 in 4k. There is little difference in the lines, spots or wrinkles of the talent's faces. I read so many reviews and watched a bunch of videos before I purchased it, ending up with the 1/4. Since you can't try them, and they are special order, hard to guess that strength to order. Perhaps I would have had better results with a different value, but no way to know that pre-purchase. It is a well made filter, but try to nail down the correct strength before purchase.

Still the best filter ever

I use it with Sigma 18-35 1.8 on BMPCC4K. Earlier I had 'heavier' Black Pro Mist 1, but this 1/4 baby does more delicate job.
