I’ve seen these battery grips before and I’ve always wanted to try one. So, I finally took the plunge and I’m glad I did. The grip has two battery packs plus it has shutter button on the side of the grip. Very easy to use, love it!

Does exactly what it should

Very happy with this! I plan on shooting surf videography so the added battery life helps a lot, along with the weight helping with stabilization.

I have been using Canon gear since I was 13 (57 now). I was a strong believer that accessory item had to have the Canon logo attached to it. First I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy the Vello grip, it was a new name that I didn't know of. I inspected it before attaching it to my Canon T4i, it was sturdy, had a comfortable feeling to it. The batteries fit with no problem. I then took out my Canon 7D and it's battery grip for compasrison purposes. Both units looked and felt almost exactly the same. The buttons and switches are the same colors, do the same functions. Some people made mention that the Vello unit did not allow the camera to show battery strength. After reading the manufacturers guide, I made note that the battery grip has to be turned on after the camera has been turned on first. I have had no problems with this unit at all. The only thing that I noticed is that the battery lock door doesn't seem as sturdy as the Canon version, but it is not weak by any means so please don't that wrong. I would recommend this battery grip to anybody that needs dependable longer lasting power, novice or pro. B&H once again has the best price for this item, and have been great to buy from over a twenty five year period.

A Useful Accessory

I was looking for a grip that would allow me to use 2 batteries for more shooting capacity for my Canon T3I. I was originally skeptical because of the low price, but thought I should give it a try. I was impressed with the overall build and quality of this battery grip. Install - you need to take the camera's battery compartment lid off, but there is a place to store it in the grip so that you don't lose it - what a great idea! The grip simply screws into the tripod socket of the camera, and supplies a replacement on its bottom. There is a switch which turns on/off the push buttons on the grip. That's something I was worried about. I did not want to have those extra buttons active when I was not using them. When the camera is being held for portrait shots, there's an additional button for focus/shutter release - right where you need it. There's also new buttons for Aperture/Exposure Comp., AF Point/Magnify, AE Lock/FE Lock/Index/Reduce, and of course, a Main Dial -- all just where they need to be when holding the camera by the grip. I have not had a chance to try the AA battery holder. I am so happy with this battery grip that I am going to buy a second one (different model) for my Canon XSi.

Great if you also shoot a lot of verticals. Adds that extra room you need if you have a smaller camera body like I do (Canon T4i).

A Great Alternative to the Canon Grip

I'm sure the Canon grip is a high quality product, but for half the price Vello gives you a great piece of hardware as well. It doesn't quite match the material on my T3i but it's a small price to pay. The only downside to the Vello grip is that the shutter release button is a little soft. On the camera itself the button clicks and you can really feel it when you press down, but on the grip it's a bit hard to tell if you've depressed the button fully.Overall, the grip is great for long shoots, portraits and giving your camera a bit more stability. Definitely recommended. Oh and if you're looking for a good shoulder strap to go with this, check out the OP/TECH Utility Strap Sling. With a bit of adjusting it's become my favorite strap to use with the battery grip. A lot of other sling straps use the tripod mount to screw the strap into the camera, but if you're using the battery grip for portraits, that gets in the way. The OP/TECH strap has two connections. One for the camera body and one specifically for battery grips. Right out of the box, and depending on your body size, the strap might be a bit cumbersome with the grip attached, but with a bit of adjusting it works really well. Check it out.

I would buy this product again and agai

Just purchased this for my Rebel T2i. As for fit and finish, five stars. So far, works great. The shutter release button is a little less smooth than the Canon's but by no means a deal breaker. Only thing I noticed is when using this while shooting vertically, the dial for changing shutter speed must be turned slower than the one on camera or it will not change the shutter speed. Other than that, works great.
