hahnel HL-COMBITF C overview

  • 1Description

Whether capturing images in the studio or out on location - the Combi TF Remote Control & Flash Trigger from hahnel adds flexibility and versatility to your shooting style. Shooting wirelessly allows you to do things other than standing behind the camera i.e. you can interact with a model, experiment with different shooting perspectives or duck out of sight of elusive wildlife - all this and more without missing a moment. This particular Combi TF is compatible with Canon, Pentax and Samsung digital cameras.

The Combi TF operates via the reliable FSK 2.4 GHz frequency for a range up to 320' (100 m). A direct line of sight is not required for its operation; radio waves can pass through objects such as walls or windows. The shutter release functions will allow you to autofocus, utilize single image or continuous shooting, use long exposures (bulb mode), or set a four second timer delay. The flash triggering functionality gives you the freedom to manage your lighting both indoors or outdoors, and you can purchase additional receivers to fire multiple portable or studio lights simultaneously.

Note: When using the remote flash control, the flash must be in Manual mode. TTL signals are not transmitted. Additional receivers and cables require a separate purchase.

Canon EOS: 1D, 1Ds Mark II, 1Ds Mark III, 1Ds Mark IV, 5D & 5D Mark II; Digital Rebel (300D), XT (350D), XTi (400D), XSi (450D), T1i (500D), T2i (550D) & XS (1000D); PowerShot G10 & G11
Pentax: K-7, K20, K100 & K200
Samsung: GX-10 & GX-20
Remote Control
As a remote control, the Combi TF allows wireless control of the camera's shutter release, auto focus, continuous shooting, bulb mode and 4 second timer delay trigger.
Radio Frequency (RF) System
As the remote transmits on the reliable FSK 2.4 GHz radio frequency; a line of sight is not a requirement for operation. Furthermore, radio waves can pass through and around obstacles such as walls and floors, triggering the camera around corners. 1
Interchangeable Cables
With interchangeable cables available for all major brands, the Combi TF is the ideal remote control for a wide variety of DSLR cameras.
Remote Flash Trigger
The remote triggering of flash units is also possible with the Combi TF. Using multiple receivers, several portable flash units can be fired simultaneously, along with triggering studio lights.
Firing Studio Lights
When you mount the transmitter on your camera hot shoe, you can fire your studio lights by connecting the receiver via a hahnel Studio Light Cable to your particular strobe (not included). The light is then triggered by the shutter release on the camera.
Additional Receivers
Additional receivers (not included) enable you to trigger multiple flash units and studio lights simultaneously. A short 6" (150mm), Studio Light Cable (not included) attaches the Combi TF receiver to the studio light.

Combi TF Remote Control & Flash Trigger for Canon, Pentax & Samsung DSLRs is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works good but not with Active View Canon XT1 w/ Canon EX580 & Achiever 632 Flash units. I use for landscape and for real estate type photos. This is my 1st experience with remote flash units of any type. Price is good compared to other units I priced out, but just getting multiple slaves seemed expensive. I ended up just buying 2 complete units. Not much difference in price. Seems to work well even over good distance from camera. OK, here is the problemwhen I used the Live View the units stopped working. I can shut off Live View and then cycle the camera off and then on, and everything works againevery time. Maybe someone has a solution. I use Live View a lot of compose and check focus.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed to work with any of 3 flashes I could not get this to work with any of the 3 flashes that I have: 1. Canon 380EX - no manual mode and the remote won't work with E-TTL flashes. This is as expected according to the doc. 2. Achiever 260T - a strictly manual flash won't fire remotely. 3. Sigma 530DG - The device comes with an insert that states a Sigma flash may freeze if you press the test button. I found that the Sigma flash froze the instant that you put power on the remote. No amount of fiddling would stop this and I had to remove the flash batteries to get the flash to unfreeze. The remote trigger for the camera worked fine but I would not recommend this product for use as a remote flash trigger.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great for casual use! I purchased my second one when the first one stopped working; thinking it was simply a bad unit. Both units started strong but then died out after about a week. I believe this product is good for the casual user but not for someone who is going to be shooting all day, every day.Great for family reunions, an occasional wedding, landscape and macro but not so much for hard core studio work....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Combi Remote Control & Flash Trigger It actually works! Slides right on the camera and flash. Can put my light stand just about anywhere and it will flash. Was a little difficult to figure out because the directions only give you 3 steps. I had to go to my local camera store so they could show me how to use it. Apparently you have to cover the sensor on the flash to get it to fire. The only downside is the trigger takes one of those special batteries you can only get at camera stores so when it goes bad you can't just stop at the nearest store and pick up some batteries.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great Only used the product a few times since I just purchased it, but so far I'm happy with my purchase. Used the product to trigger my 580EXII. Also used to trigger a Canon 5D EOS placed inside a sound blimp for wildlife photography. Had one minor issue pop up where the flash kept firing for some reason. After turning the unit off and back on again I didn't experience the problem for the rest of the day. Not sure what the source of the problem was but it was quickly resolved. As a remote shutter release, the product performed flawlessly. Placed camera with receiver in a sound blimp, in my house and walked outside to about 200 ft from the camera. Camera fired every time. Have not tested yet for any time delay. All in all a great product for the price. Also like the fact that the receiver has a hot shoe to mount your flash on to. Some products don't have that feature, forcing you to rig something to keep the receiver attached to your flash. Also, this product does allow you to select channels in case a certain frequency is tied up. Didn't find that info in the specs and you can't see it on the outside of the product. It's in the battery compartment though so rest assured, you do have a little versatility there. Four stars for excellent price and the fact that it performs well. Lacks the features of the more expensive remotes but works great if you're on a budget and looking for something very basic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not 100% reliable If they see each other they work fine. Used them with a Canon flash into a softbox, if you are not close to it it'll lose the connection many times. Also behind a simple column made it not to shoot. It is great for outside jobs but you have to be in a short range (and better be closer). I also used it inside for still life photos and worked just great. I remoted the camera once and, again, it was covered and didn't shoot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for working alone Not only can you trigger the camera remotely (and without line-of-sight visibility), but it can snyc two cameras together. This allows you two get two shots from two angles at the same time. The only complaint I have is the design of the remote unit...because it has a hot-shoe connection integrated into the design, it isn't exactly ergonomic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great remote system I bought this mainly for use in triggering off camera flashes and studio lighting. I had some trouble getting the reciever to connect to my camera via the three pin connection, but a few tries and it started working fine. The Combi TF is a great alternative to other wireless flash triggering. It is small and quite versitile.
