Zacuto Z-MF5D Overview

  • 1Description

The Zacuto Z-Finder Mounting Frame for Canon 5D is for mounting a Z-Finder to the LCD screen of a Canon 5D Mark II. It attaches to the required Gorilla Plate using two thumb screws; then, with the frame's rubber edges pressing snugly against the LCD screen, the Z-Finder can snap quickly into the frame and afterwards be easily removed.

While the universal frame that comes standard with the Z-Finder Pro will also work, this unit allows the red thumb screws on the Gorilla Plate to cover the entire frame, making for a more precise fit.

Note: This will NOT work with the 5D with battery grip, 7D, Canon T2i or any other camera. It will work solely on the Canon 5d Mark II. If you are using cameras with a battery grip, then the battery grip frame is needed.

Works with Z-Finder Pro 2.5x, 3x, and Jr. (Gorilla Plate not included with Z-Finder Jr.--must be purchased separately)
Made of aircraft aluminum
Non-stick rubber coating seals off light and prevents scratching of camera

    Zacuto Z-MF5D Reviews

Z-Finder Mounting Frame for Canon 5D Mark II is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must Have I use this product on the back of the 5DM2. The standard frame that came with my Zacuto Z-Finder worked but just barely. When I'm out shooting, I have lots to think about (and so do you) so that last thing I wanted to worry about it whether or not the frame was going to slip in the middle of a shoot. This frame fits very nicely onto the gorilla plate I use to attach the ZZF to the 5DM2 and leaves me feeling much more comfortable. No slips yet. My only surprise is that after purchasing the ZZF you have to purchase an additional item to have a comfort level with the ZZF on the 5DM2. Seems like Zacuto should offer a specific Z-Finder for the 5DM2 and not require an additional purchase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A must have to properly mount on 5dmk2 Regardless of the type of shooting you do, you need this piece to properly mount the z finder on s 5D Mk2. The pieces supplied with the Z finder should work on this camera but it is too short because of the size of the 5D's body. A complete rip off at $ simply to make it fit properly. Makes the Z finder too expensive and it's already difficult to use if you have a pan tilt handle on your video head. In still photo mode I found the z finder's video camera like nature threw off my sense of my still photo framing. I'm back to using an external monitor on my camera when shooting video.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works perfectly with the 5D Does what it is supposed to do. You should lift the bottom edge when removing the Z-Finder sice it is a longer frame and will pull away from the camera if you lift the top edge. Not really an inconvenience. Took half a star off for that and a half star for the price. Like I said before, it does do what it is supposed to do, but seems expensive for a small piece of aluminum. If you already bought a gorilla frame, you already have the nuts and the piece that mounts to the Gorilla frame. They could have eliminated those and sold it for half price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It isn't great but, Used it on my 5D but had to buy another plate. The one's that comes with it is a little short. Also, it's very hard to remove it in the beginning. It is however a great tool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does it's job. Using with 5D and ZFinder. Zacuto makes solid gear, this is light but sturdy and the thumb screws are easy to use and keep it in place throughout the day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from better fit than the original frame Bought this because I wanted a more secure fit that I knew wouldn't accidentally fall off the gorilla plate. Works great.
