  • 1Description

When you need a medium-telephoto standard lens for everything from portraiture to sports, the fast Sigma 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLRs is a great solution. This large aperture beauty is designed with an SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element and a glass mold element which yield first-class, sharp image captures with high contrast.

The 85mm f/1.4 has Sigma's HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) which provides fast, accurate and quiet autofocusing. The exterior of this lens is EX-finished which translates to a superior build and optical quality, enhanced handling and appearance. It comes with a petal-type hood to block out extraneous light. A dedicated hood adapter for cameras with an APS-C size image sensor is also included to expand the length of the hood for blocking out extraneous light more effectively.

This fast f/1.4 lens is great for capturing fast moving images, allowing you to use faster shutter speeds, and is what you want when shooting under low lighting conditions. This highly efficient lens has a nine blade circular diaphragm for creating pleasant out-of-focus highlights (bokeh) which is a major asset to portrait and wedding photographers.

Note: This lens is designed for use with full frame digital cameras. May also be used with smaller APS-c size sensors with a corresponding effective increase in focal length to about 127.5mm with most cameras.

Note: Nikon mount lenses do not have an aperture ring.

    Sigma 85mm f/1.4 reviews

85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens For Nikon Digital SLR Cameras is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tack-Sharp! I love it!! I have always used only Nikon brand lenses, and it took a leap of faith to spend this much money for non-Nikon glass. But my worries were for nothing. Wow! This lens is extremely sharp! I absolutely love it! It offers me all the versatility that the comparable Nikon would, but at many hundreds of dollars less. Like any 85mm lens at f/1.4 or similar wide aperture, the depth of field is barely a couple of inches. So attention to precision focusing and choice of f-stop are extremely critical. IMO, you cannot go wrong with this lens! I'm completely satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A competitive lens with an good price I had my doubts about this lens, I read several reviews on the internet, and I decided to buy this lens hoping to fulfill my expectations. to my surprise, this lens has proved better than expected on my nikon d600, is quite sharp and the focus is very good, as any 77mm lens is heavy, but every time I take photos I have found that is stable and reliable, its construction despite being more plastic than metal does a great job comparing to the nikkor 85mm lens which is more expensive, definitely one of my best purchases I've made. Best combination quality-reliability-price for a lens of this type.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The best 85mm on its price range. I was wondering for a long time in to buy this lens or not. At the time I had a Nikon 85mm 1.8 that gave me great results but judging from the experience of a Sigma 50mm 1.4 that I had before (sharpest lens that I have seen) I decided to buying this one. It is a great lens, heavy, vey well constructed, a huge piece of glass but comparing the sharpness with my 50mm 1.4, not as sharp as expected. Don't get me wrong, it is a very sharp lens but not as sharp as my 50mm 1.4 that it is sharp as a razor blade, even at f/1.4. It is a little bit slow on the AF at low light setting. Overall, it is a great lens, I recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Near-Nikkor Optics at 60% of Nikkor Cost I'm a wedding photographer and I use the 85 f/1.4 in a variety of circumstances. This, along with the Sigma 50mm f/1.4, are the first third-party lenses I've ever purchases and I did so a little bit hesitantly ... it gets solid reviews and I figured if nothing else I could return it. If I lived and died by this lens I probably would've stuck with the Nikkor simply because my existing Nikkors have served me so well, but I thought that, given its modest role in my bag and the way I shoot, I could settle for less than the very best given the cost savings. So that's where I'm coming from, and this lens hasn't disappointed in the least. Fantastic optics, fast AF-S, great bokeh and surprisingly sharp even at f/1.4. Very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stellar optics - as good as the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 AF-S - better than the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 AF-D - outstanding build quality - fast, accurate autofocus on my D7000 Sigma has really stepped up the game. This is a serious lens. I have used both the Nikon versions of this lens and I just don't understand the value proposition there. Optically and mechanically, the older AF-D Nikon is nowhere near the Sigma. The newer AF-S Nikon is about the same but costs twice as much! The Sigma is a no-brainer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A nice alternative that fits my budget. With my budget, I can't afford Nikon's new version of this same type of lens. This is the first non Nikon lens that I have purchased so far, and I was a little worried about the quality of this lens before I received it. I did a lot of research and have read numerous positive reviews for this lens prior to ordering it, so I thought I would give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and feel of this lens when I opened the package. I have been using this lens for about two weeks now practicing with some portraits, and sports pictures in very poor or low light situations. This lens has a very smooth and quiet fast focus. The lens feels sturdy and well built. I am very happy with this purchase. I am not a professional by any means, but I aspire to be one some day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Alternative I was torn between this and the new Nikon G 1.4. All of my other lenses are Nikkors (except the Sigma 15mm fisheye 2.8). Of course the older Nikon 1.4D and 1.8D lenses were also considered. Reviews were read. The 1.4 D is a lengend in many circles. Ultimately after reading a number of reviews and looking at sample photos I selected the Sigma. In most all reviews, the Sigma seemed to be really close to the Nikon G. I have now shot over 1000 images with it (on a D700) during an extended outdoor portrait session and am very pleased with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens I think this is a great lens. It is sharp and the auto-focus is a lot faster than the Nikon 85 1.4 G. I liked the Nikon but the slow focus was driving me crazy. I returned the Nikon and purchased this lens. This focus is fast and the lens is sharp. I would have never thought about owning a Sigma lens before this lens.
