Veracity VHW-HW Overview

Easily convert your BNC cabling into a high-speed RJ45 Ethernet connection with the Highwire Ethernet over Coax Adapter from Veracity. Using the adapter, you can replace analog cameras with IP cameras, while still using your existing cables. This package includes one adapter, however, two adapters per link are required, one connected to your IP camera and one connected to your PoE switch.

Speed, duplex, and crossover are sensed as soon as you connect the adapter to your system so that no setup is required. Furthermore, no configuration is required when you connect the unit to each end of the coaxial cable, as the link will be established automatically.

The Ethernet over Coax Adapter is invisible to Ethernet data, and it does not need a MAC or IP address. In addition to auto-optimizing for all 75 ohm coaxial cables, the long connection range of the converter makes it suitable for network connections beyond 328' (100m).

Featuring a universal power input, the Highwire Ethernet over Coax Adapter is suitable for low-voltage installations and use with legacy coaxial cables. Compared to Cat 5 cables, the coaxial cables coil and bend, enabling you to provide network access to elevator carriages, VoIP items, security systems, lift panels, and similar devices.

Works well. I used this to bring internet to another building half a mile away over coax. Connection is solid and transparent. Latency is fantastic < 1ms. Jitter is nonexistent on this link. Power outages and such are handled with ease--the device snaps back online in seconds. For all practical purposes, this device is install and forget. There are no settings. Other than the LEDs on the unit, there is no way to check if it's working which is just fine in this case. The only issue is that these devices seems overly sensitive to power surges. I've lost several units (for no obvious reason) due to lightning. The house wasn't hit, and more or less these units are the only casualty every time! After taking it apart, it appears that it burns out due to a spark across some of the pins--clearly a surge of some kind. Lightning is lightning, but I do think these devices seem more prone to failure than the rest of the sensitive network gear in my house. I've replaced this unit so many times that I finally went over to L-com and bought a whole bunch of ethernet and coax surge protectors to protect both sides of the Highwire unit and to provide a better ground path for any potential surges. Time will tell. Other than that bit about sensitivity to lightning, I've been using these for several years now and they've been absolutely perfect. They pair great with the VHW-WMB wall mounting bracket. Also, if you're seeking power for this device, I've had great success using PoE (Trendnet and TP-Link both sell excellent PoE spliiter units) as well as normal 12v wall wart power supplies.

Have a legacy device that only accepts an analogue BNC-connector camera. Have cat-5 going to this remote location, which is about 20 meters away. Have ability to supply power to camera at its remote location. So need to convert BNC to cat-5 for transmission. At head-end (local), want to connect the cat-5 from the camera to an Ethernet switch (has several POE ports as well as standard ports) to feed computer based NVR. What type(s) of products do I need for this application?

Total novice, here. I want to setup an A/V baby monitor utilizing MoCA due to the risks of using a standard Wi-Fi baby monitor. Which devices do I need?How can I view and listen to the feed in my living room and in my bedroom? My router is next to my TV in my living room.

This unit would work for what you are trying to do as long as you have 2 of the units for the conversion from Ethernet to coax and then back and that you have a POE switch or injector as well.

This Ethernet over Coax adapter can provide data speeds up to 100Mps. When using standard 75 Ohm coax cable, you'll get this speed up to 920' away. For 1150' distance, you can use high quality RG59 video cable or RG6.

These are single devices and you will need one on each end of your coax. The power supplies are not included and are available as options.

Can you use this device coupled with a Highwire Powerstar Quad and use a power supply on the Quad to provide PoE to 4 camera units?

Can these units be daisy chained together through ...

Can these units be daisy chained together through a switch to increase distance? I have a max distance of about 3/4 mile with points of access needed about every 1000 feet.

While these units can be daisy chained, I would suggest simply using our LONGSTAR product line can send data up to 1400 meters or 4593 feet on RG-11 coaxial cable. If you were using RG-59 cable you would be able to send data to 690 meters or 2263 feet. But, if you wanted to use the VHW-HW (Highwire) unit to daisy chain over that connection you could. Each pair of HIGHWIRE units would get you 300m on RG-59 coaxial cables.

If I am understanding your question correctly, you are looking to send your digital television signal over Ethernet cable. This convertor works for extending Ethernet over coax but not the other way around.
