Quantum Instruments QF30UV Overview

This is a UV Coated Flash Tube for select Quantum Qflash heads. The flash tube is simply plugged into and unplugged from the socket of the T series flash head. With proper handling, the flash tube may last for tens of thousands of flashes under normal conditions.

The flash tube is UV-Coated. UV flash tubes have a yellow appearance, and they counteract the excess blue of 5700K or higher output when compared to a non-UV coated flash tube. UV coating lowers the color temperature to 5500K, which is the color of noon daylight on a clear day.

Minus one star for incorrect placement of red alignment dot

Some idiot at Quantum placed the red alignment dot a quarter turn off. Luckily, I have the QF30 Flashtube to use as a reference for the correct placement of the red dot. I could have damaged the TRIO Basic by forcing the QF30UV Flashtube into the 4 holes. Unbelievably lousy quality control at Quantum. No wonder their sales have plummeted in Canada over the years. Otherwise, the UV coated bulb does produce a slightly warmer tone as designed which is what I was looking for.

This is from the QTM website: The same flash tube is used on all T model flashes (from model T up to current T5d-R) and Trio flashes. Flash tube model QF30 is the standard tube that is included in all the flashes mentioned above. As an option, we also make available a UV coated flash tube, model QF30UV that can be used in the Trio and T model flashes. Towards the base of the flash tube, there should be a sticker with Quantum's name on it and the model number of the flash tube. Please note - flash tubes from our X series flashes ( X5d-R, X2, etc.) are NOT compatible.
