The 2GB built-in memory holds up to 1,200 books, which everyone can agree is a lot of reading material. However, when utilized, the expansion slots allow for storage of up to 50,000 books - a mind boggling amount. The Touch Edition is compatible with ePub and PDF files, as well as many other popular formats. Acquire books from the Sony Reader Store, Google Books, online aggregators, even the public library, among other sources. And, unlike the Pocket Edition, the Touch also allows for storage of MP3 and AAC audio files - meaning the Touch doubles as a music player, and it enables you to listen to audio books.
The 6" touch screen provides a somewhat bigger display than the Pocket Edition on which to read and navigate. Just like the Pocket Edition you can turn pages with the swipe of your finger or the included stylus. The E Ink Pearl technology used in the display provides a paper-like viewing surface that's easy on your eyes, while remaining readable, even outdoors. The display also features 6 font sizes and the ability to highlight and make notes.
Other features of the Touch Edition include built-in dictionaries and translators that allow you to look up a word or meaning with a click. With the Reader it's also easy to manage content using the Reader Library software. Compatible with both Mac and PC this software helps you download books and transfer files to and from the Reader. Additional features include right and left-hand side page advance buttons, a high-speed USB 2.0 connection for transfer and charging, and the ability to read for two weeks on a full charge.
