Itried contacting ART, regarding polarity, are you sure it is not shown on the power supply whether the center is Negative or Positive?
The ART AC Adapter for USB Phono Plus has a center negative tip. The input voltage is 120V AC 60Hz, 7W and the output voltage is 12V DC, 150mA.

Why is this 12v being offered as the correct AC adapter when the actual USB Phono Plus preamp has 9v written on it? Would either 9v or 12v work?
The ART USB Phono Plus can operate with a range of voltages. It can accept 7-9V when powered via USB, and 9 - 12V AC @ 150mA when powered by external adapter.
