Mackie Blackjack overview

  • 1Description

The Onyx Blackjack from Mackie is a 2 x 2 USB recording Interface featuring two boutique-quality Onyx preamps and high-end 24-bit/48kHz conversion in a convenient tabletop housing. The analog to digital converters offer 114dB dynamic range (A-weighted) and the preamp circuitry is aligned precisely with the conversion to always provide the best headroom and the lowest noise and distortion possible.

Latency during recording is an issue that often requires a workaround. The Blackjack puts this issue to rest once and for all, featuring a true analog monitoring path directly from the preamps to the studio monitors and headphones. This means you can track in either mono or stereo while listening to the direct analog source with zero routing. Not only that, it also means you can adjust your buffer settings to maximize your computers processing ability.

    Mackie Blackjack reviews

Onyx Blackjack - USB Recording Interface is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality Product We were looking for a low cost couple input couple output mixer to use as part of our Broadcast Streaming setup. The unit needed to be able to send the audio into a Laptop over USB, and also have other outputs to go to other recording devices. This device fit what we wanted exactly. It is going to be replacing a $300.00 Mackie mixer that was overkill for the Job, was three to four times bigger, and a $40.00 USB Imic that we used to get the audio into the computer. This device is also powered by the USB bus so we are eliminating a power block as well from the setup. Quality is fantastic as you would expect from anything make by Mackie.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very useful If you're not already working with a large A/D converter and mixing board, this is a very handy and quality unit. I have it for audio/video editing at work, where we're not doing a lot of audio recording. Just being able to control headphone and speaker volume separately and have the option of adding a voiceover or keyboard track (with hardware monitoring) to a video is very useful. Also, the sound quality to the headphones is much better, especially in the low end, than using the little miniplug on my Mac. Works instantly on Mac Lion (no drivers to install) but will override the internal sound card (speakers in the CPU are shut off.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ear-blowing clarity and pick-up! Home-studio pro voice-over recording direct to PC. I've used a number of combos to get the best voice into PC/Software and this is... BY FAR.... the most outstanding quality. I want to keep things simple, shortest signal path, minimal coloration, maximum monitoring options etc., and this interface beats everything I've used so far. It looks and feels superb - the pre-amps operate exactly as you'd hope... the layout is logical and user-friendly...the XLR/1/4 jack inputs (2) mean optimum flexibility for inputting stereo sources (guitar pedals, synths, sub-mixers) and the mono/stereo input monitor option is very useful. NOTE: If you have a nose-picking spider in the attic, you WILL now hear it, if you plug a microphone into this unit! I wouldn't say the GAIN control is 'hot', but, unless you're careful, you'll capture sleeping gnomes snoring on planet Ivox. Mackie have outdone themselves by making/keeping a solution-based piece of kit exactly as users would want. The 'tilt' bracket sets the unit up perfectly for desktop use... this is something I'll stick to for a Loooong time - 'don't know how it could be bettered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome value and it works so well (Onyx Blackjack) I have used Mackie mixers in the past, so I was pleased to see this offered for connecting high quality mics to a laptop through USB (MacPro laptop). It worked right out of the box with Garage Band and it is the same quality audio pre-amps that come with the Mackie mixers - super quiet. This unit is also very heavy duty - nice and solid feeling. For the price at B&H, you just can't beat this for connecting mics to a laptop. Excellent value!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bang for the buck For the price, this interface can't be beat. Preamps are much cleaner and less noisy than the Steinberg interface I used to own, which is the main reason I switched. I love not having to install drivers on OS X - even though this interface is already a few years old, I can rest assured that it will still work for a long time since it's class compliant. My guess is that they're discontinuing it soon (hence the price drop), so pick one up soon!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A solid interface This is a solidly built interface. Smooth controls, clean output, and easy to use. The ONLY drawbacks: I have to keep my laptop plugged into a charger when I use it, especially if I'm running a mike with phantom power. Secondly, the drivers didn't immediately work with Windows 10 - be sure that you install them in compatibility mode for windows 7. The Tracktion software is easy to use, and very robust. Overall a great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool Product Top-notch components, super solid design, simple operation. I'm using it with a 2 x 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro desktop with high-end speakers for audio work and Final Cut Pro projects with complex soundtracks. It is just what I needed to drive the studio monitors and plug in an xlr microphone, guitar or other instrument. Highly recommended.
