Make your shooting experience more comfortable and intuitive with the Composite DSLR Stabilizer from Shape. Providing a shoulder-mounted platform for DSLR/mirrorless and video cameras, users will have access to an adjustable and customizable rig for added stability and functionality. The system is designed around the Paparazzi Riser with 15mm rod system, which combines two pairs of rods to create an easily set up rig. Adding to the setup is a Quick Handle with rod bloc as well as a telescopic support arm with rod bloc to minimize fatigue over long shooting periods. For added comfort, an offset rail bloc will provide space for a separate monitor or viewfinder, and there are both an adjustable composite shoulder pad and a back pad.

  • Paparazzi Riser/15mm Rod System

Use the SHAPE Paparazzi Riser/15mm Rod System as a base to attach accessories to your DSLR or small camcorder. This system displaces the weight of accessories from the camera to the rods/riser. The Paparazzi riser adds 2" to the camera height while its mounting-screw slot allows for up to 4" of front-to-back adjustment. The 15mm rod system offers thumbscrew-locking 8" rods with Allen key vertical adjustment (up to 1.375"). This riser/rod system can work with various on-camera accessories such as a lens support, matte box, lens adapter, or follow focus.

  • Telescopic Support Arm with Rod Bloc

The Telescopic Support Arm with Rod Bloc from SHAPE is a variable length support arm designed to stabilize a shoulder rig while keeping the user mobile. The unit consists of a telescopic arm, Rod Bloc, and multi-function shoe which can be independently adjusted to the user's preference.

The telescopic arm is a simple aluminum support which may be adjusted at two points, from a minimum length of 14" to a maximum of 20". The top end of the rod is capped by an adjustable single-knob joint which supports and positions the CNC machined aluminum Rod Bloc—the attachment point for a shoulder-mounted rig. At the arm's base is an internal spring designed to provide added control when tilting vertically, allowing the user to capture a more stable image while in motion.

The bottom end of the telescopic arm is fitted with SHAPE's multi-function shoe—a cup-style base designed to rest against the user's torso or in a support belt for additional stability. If needed, the shoe may be removed so that the arm may be used as a boom, providing a connection point for a monitor, microphone, light, and more.

The Shape Quick Handle + Rod Block is a professional video stabilization accessory with 2 camera handles, each providing an individual rotation angle of 360°. You can attach the handle to the camera platform using a simple screw knob. A simple push button located at the articulation allows easy attachment and removal.

Combined with the anodized aluminum Rod Block, the Quick Handle offers composite camera support for all 15mm rods. You can achieve precise positioning by sliding the Quick Handle along the rods and tightening the small red knob located on the Rod Block. With 2 screw-threaded holes, the Rod Block provides for attachment of components such as the Quick Handle.

  • Off-Set Rail Block - 2.875"

The SHAPE wlb Off-Set Rail Block - 2.875" is a lightweight anodized aluminum piece that, in congress with a second identical piece, horizontally offsets a pair of standard 15mm rods and Rod Blocks from a SHAPE wlb Paparazzi Riser. The offsetting facilitates the creation of a shoulder-mounted rig in which the shoulder mount assembly is horizontally offset from the camera. The camera is mounted on the riser and centered near the operator's eye.

The Off-Set Rail Blocks can be positioned so the rods assembly is set off either to the left or the right of the riser. One Off-Set Rail Block is attached to the front of the Paparazzi Riser, via two screw-threaded holes. A second Off-Set Rail Block is attached in identical fashion to the rear of the Paparazzi Riser. The other end of each of the two Off-Set Rail Blocks has a slot that's 2.875 in (7.3 cm) long. The slot allows screws to attach it in various horizontal positions to the Rod Block, which hosts the standard 15mm rods.

Note: Only one Off-Set Rail Block is included.

  • Adjustable Composite Shoulder Pad

The SHAPE Adjustable Composite Shoulder Pad is a core component of SHAPE's Composite series of camera supports. The pad rests on the camera operator's shoulder to transfer the weight of the camera and any accessories closer to the core of the body. The lightweight aluminum shoulder pad is padded for comfort.

Attached to the front of the pad, the included Sliding Rod Block enables the adjustment – up to 2.75 in (7.0 cm) – that allows the operator to set a pair of 15mm rods and at the proper vertical level.

The Adjustable Composite Shoulder Pad is compatible with several other camera rig components from SHAPE and, because it accepts standard 15mm rods, other manufacturers as well. You can attach a counterweight to the back of the shoulder pad to provide more support for the camera rig. The shoulder pad is recommended for camera rigs up to 15 lb (6.8 kg) if you're supporting it with dual rods or up to 7.5 lb (3.4 kg) if you're using a single rod, so it's perfect for heavy DSLR setups and lighter HD video camera rigs.

Its design features a powder coated anodized aluminum plate and arm which are attached to a thick padding on the side facing the user. The pad is easy to both attach and remove from your rig, and it supports the SHAPE BOX attachment. Additionally, the pad's position can be adjusted to the user's preference up to 2" vertically and 360° horizontally.

Composite DSLR Stabilizer is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from In all a great product There's quite a lot of these out on the market. Zacuto's models might offer premium quality this comes at a cost. I like Shape's rig becuase of it's rigid design but perhaps the best thing is the waist support you get with this- I have really bad lower back problems and this has helped me get through day long shoots without virtually any pain. The small downside is the plate on the end of the waist support is plastic and a but has chipped off. The rest of the rig is still very sturdy and working splendidy though. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid build, easy to adjust I have only used the rig for a few hours on a shoot, but everything felt very comfortable. The arm extention is really the differnce maker with this rig, you're able to balance the rig on your shoulder without any hands, which saves your back and shoulder from any stress. One downside would have to be the screw that goes directly into your camera, its a very tight space under the camera platform, and anyone with large figers will have trouble mounting the camera onto the rig.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Extremely nice but, expensive! Shape obviously cares about quality of their products. This Shape Composite Stabilizer is very well made, and is quite versatile when working with smaller camcorders like my Sony EX1. There are many camera support systems out there for smaller rigs like mine but, if you're planning on shooting for any length of time, you need to get one that has the belt and stabilizer bar system on it, as this one does. It makes all the difference in the world. Would I change anything about the design, maybe, but not much. The cup at the end of the stabilizer bar works nicely when you want to place it on a table or other flat surface, but it does get a little uncomfortable on your body when using it with the belt over a long period of time. Overall, I'm very pleased with the Composite Stabilizer. The only big negative I can think of is the price! Sitting close to $900 for the rig, add on the belt and some accessories and you're shelling out a large amount of money. If you've got the money, buy this rig versus the other ones like it out there. It is definitely worth it. But I have to admit, with a depressed economy, this was a hard one to swallow with the price being this steep!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product SHAPE have a great product here. Very sturdy, solid and a little cheaper than most brands. I;ve just added a little extra padding of my own onto the shoulder brace but other than that it is ready to go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best rig in it's price range I've used this guy for a mix of doc and narrative work on a 7D and been very pleased with its performance. It's stood up to run and gun work in the mean streets of NYC and the wilds of Tanzania, and even handled handheld in a helicopter. The build quality is high, the rig is flexible to various configurations, and the rosette-style handles are a smart, sturdy, and far and away my favorite feature. I wasn't convinced of the belt/stabilizer system, but while it isn't always optimal for every situation, it has saved my arms (and made my shooting better) in long handheld scenes. The rig isn't perfect. The handles could be longer/lower/lighter, the shoulder pad could use more padding and more range of height, and sometimes it's hard to get at the tie-down on the riser block. And of course, the prices could always be better (especially for the accessories/add-ons). But you won't get a sturdier, more flexible, less confusing rig for anywhere near this price range. And frankly, it's lack of proprietary and overly complicated design (I'm looking at you, Zacuto) beats a lot of it's more expensive cousins. There's always room for improvement, but these Canadians make a great rig for the price. Buy it (or one of Shape's other systems) with confidence.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does an excellent job for video Just beginning to learn how to shoot video with the stabilizer. Impressed with all the adjustments and the quality feel of the support. Wish it had a bit more instructional manual with it, but making up for that by watching online tutorials.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Got two same handles, not one of each Other than the fact that the unit came with two identical handles (meaning two for the same hand), the unit is pretty good. It does scratch easily, but I knew it would do that as it is black. Scratches don't matter to performance, and you don't get any gear style points out there. As for the handles, you can tell they are two for the same hand by the way they feel and are indented -- there are grooves for your thumbs that only feel right on one hand, and looking at them closely you can tell why this is. It was not worth the effort to send the whole unit back for this issue, as I needed it right away the day after it arrived (hence desiring expedited shipping), which I got and played into my decision making process when buying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best I've found Its all one needs and more - designed with the shooter in mind and the price is affordable. The other comparable quality rigs were way more expensive. And there is real phone support from professionals
