Mirror Image PB-15 overview

  • 1Description

The 15" PB-15 Price Buster Prompter from Mirror Image offers a resolution of 1024 x 768 and brightness of 250 cd/m². It includes a 15" color LCD monitor and supports XGA signals.  The included easy-to-use dual-screen software allows you to control the prompter from a PC. On one channel the software reverses the text from left to right for display on the prompting monitor while on the other channel it displays the text correctly on the operator's PC. The Buster Prompter is designed for indoor use.

Measuring 15.5 x 12.5", the large beamsplitter comes with a removable luggage-grade Cordura hood/lens surround. Using the adjustable tripod and camera mount, you can ensure optimum balance without the use of counterweights. A light-tight design prevents LCD washout from the rear of the prompter that may affect the LCD glass quality. The prompter's two-piece construction ensures easy setup and installation.

    Mirror Image PB-15 reviews

PB-15 Price Buster Prompter with Prompting Software (15") is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Studio use The prompter itself is great for the price. No fuzz two piece design, very easy to assemble and bright screen. It does not have a case and I do find it cumbersome to transport. The angle is not adjustable and most of the time the talent cannot see the top part of the teleprompter. The VGA (I guess like most teleprompter) is hard to access. It uses a screw to secure the camera which prevents you to adjust the camera back and forth. It also can't secure cameras such as EX3 (or bigger) so you'll need a base plate to make your life easier. Overall it works and it does the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value at a budget price Purchased three of these for our high school TV studio. While a wider screen is usually better (and more expensive), the 15 screen on this model works fine for the short distances we normally work from in a small studio. I initially thought I could only afford two decent prompters with my budget, but the PB-15 price allowed me to purchase one for all three of our studio cameras. Very please about that! One caution: these monitors only work with a VGA feed, so figure on the expense of VGA extension cables. They come with a 25' cable, but we needed 50' to get to our control room's teleprompter computer. Video coax cable to a composite input would have been less expensive and less bulky to run, but the direct VGA feed is cleaner that video from a scan converter. Not that impressed with the prompter software provided--we prefer to use a rundown/prompter program for our regular newscasts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for schools Two of these were purchased for our high school television studio as an improvement over students reading off paper for the morning announcements. They were easy to set up and we have had no problems with them after using them daily for several months. Once students learn how to control the speed, they have no problem using the teleprompters. The included software is very basic, but I believe it's free with the teleprompters. I've considered upgrading to the pro version of the software just for the spell check feature. Since we use one laptop to run both teleprompters, I have a wireless VGA adapter to avoid wires on the floor and a splitter to send the signal to both displays. They are heavy, so make sure to have a solid, professional tripod. The only drawback I have found is the hood covers the zoom controls for my cameras. To solve that problem, I cut a window and used gaffers tape to seal around the rocker switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bang For The Buck There are two of the PB-15s being used in a high school video production lab. The construction is a solid metal, all the components are of good quality and set up was was. The one negative thing is that when the mirror slides into the grooves that support it there is not a way to secure it in its factory form, but this is easily fixed by adding a small c-clamp. I plan on drilling holes through the groove slides and the support then put in a quick disconnect bolt. Other than that A+ Mirror Image.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Value! I use this product full-time in a professional video studio; mostly green screen stuff. I used to use a more expensive teleprompter but needed to replace it. I gambled and went with this option which was a great value. I'm so happy I did. The glass is large enough to read from 20 feet away. It's pretty heavy so make sure you have a sturdy tripod. The only real downside I've found is the fabric hood that encloses the camera lens. This fabric is pretty stiff so it doesn't form around the sense very well. The opening is actually pretty big so I'm sure it will fit larger lenses or ENG cameras. But, I use it with my GH4 and the opening doesn't quite close around the smaller lenses. Definitely not a deal breaker, but it might annoy some. The software that comes with it is pretty limited but it does the job. I'd recommend finding better software that works for you though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Very comparable to higher-priced prompter units. We've used it on a crane, on a dolly and a standard tripod and have no complaints. It's easy to set up and we travel with it in a padded 28x16x16 rolling case (it only comes apart in two parts, which has never been an issue for us).......

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Portable, reliable, affordable This is an excelent value for the price, probably the least expensive teleprompter with a built-in display. It can be quickly disassembled for location work. You will need to get a bag to carry it around, though, as it is NOT included in the box.The device comes with Script-Q Advanced software (branded version of ProPrompter, which works as expected. The license is valid for both Windows and Mac. I tested both and the Mac version performed much smoother, even though my Windows laptop had higher specs. The display on the device is a stock 15-inch Planar monitor, with only VGA input (no DVI). Curiously, the monitor has built-in stereo speakers, an audio input and headphones output, for which I can't come up with any use. I couldn't help but think that it might have been less expensive to use a monitor without the audio; I feel like I'm paying for something I will never need. Nonetheless, the device works flawlessly, looks professional enough and is rather inexpensive (with the quarter of the price being just the software itself).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again It was very easy to install and operate. We are currently using this telepromtper on a college campus for faculty to make instructional videos. It was worth the money and I would definitely buy this teleprompter again.
