  • 1Description

The Chrosziel Matte Box 456-30 Academy (3 Filter Holders) consists of a 456-30 matte box, French flag, a filterstage for 3 individually rotating filter holders, three 4 x 5.65 / 5 x 5 filter holders, a 130mm clamp-on rear plate, and a bracket for 15mm lightweight support rods. It is ideal for use with handheld and full-production studio cameras.

The 456-30 Matte Box offers wide angle (16:9 /4:3) housing for lens as wide as 14mm (35mm Academy) and eliminates the effects of vignetting. Equipped with a filterstage for 3 independently rotating 4 x 5.650/5 x 5 filter holders, the matte box provides sufficient space for adjusting the position of filters.

Provided with a French flag, the Matte Box 456-30 Academy controls the angle of light and eliminates lens glare and flare, and it can be coupled with optional side wings for accurate light adjustment. The kit includes a 130mm clamp-on rear plate and a bracket for use with 15mm lightweight support rods (optional).

With optional bridgeplate adaptors, you can interface the kit with 15mm or 19mm bridgeplate rods. An optional swing-away bracket, attached to the back of the matte box housing allows for quick and efficient lens changes.

    Chrosziel 456-30 reviews

Matte Box 456-30 Academy (3 Filter Holders) is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Design from Chrosziel This unit does work well to control stray light and the three filter holders are nice, but this design is prone to problems. First, the carbon fiber shell is no where near as strong as the older plastic shells. Our's cracked while being transported in a Porta Brace case. We were able to Guerrilla Glue it back together. Second, this is a modular design. Which means there are many screws that come loose all the time and the matte box wiggles around. You have to take the mounting bracket off the box to get to some of the screws. After 4 months of light use most all the screws were loose in our box. And the flag bracket sticks out unnecessarily far and causes problems when fitting a camera with the matte box in a camera case, even if the case is designed for use with cameras and matte boxes. I can't recommend a box that's better than this. These were just a few of the issues I've had with it. We own two older Chrosziel matte boxes and they're better.
