AKG Vocal Set Reviews

Did not realize I was purchasing a factory refurbished by previously used items. However it works great and is in good shape. And I really appreciate the low price. I would be more certain before purchasing again from your store because I don't normally buy used items. I do think you should be more clear in your description

Excellent Microphone for the Price...

I purchased this microphone a month ago for my home Karaoke setup. I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality and sound of the mic. It has great wireless range and is easy to use. I also like the fact that is has balanced XRL outputs. Highly recommend.

Impressive Sound Quality for the Money

I operate a hobby karaoke/DJ setup for parties with friends and family. I am by no means a professional, but have been slowly upping the quality of my kit. I had been operating budget priced Shure SM48 corded microphones for their durability and low cost of replacement, but with only mediocre to decent sound quality. I have been eyeing wireless microphones for a while, but was turned off by their high price of entry for anything of what I considered decent quality. I wanted a digital unit for their noise rejection capability, but all of those units are still priced into the stratosphere. I settled on the AKG Perception units as I was hoping they would be the best compromise between price and quality. When AKG offered them on special for 25% off, I jumped at the chance and bought two Band-A units with hand-held microphones. I was hesitant to purchase two units in the same frequency band, for fear of cross-talk. So far, I have only tested them in my 20'x30' garage. I operate one unit on channel 1 and the other on channel 8. Both units work flawlessly. Zero cross-talk, zero static, and zero drop-outs. Voice quality is brighter and clearer than my muddy sounding Shure SM48 wired mics. I have not yet tried them in an outdoor setting to test their range, and likely won't until much later in the year. Critiques: All of my critiques are leveled at the hand-held microphones. The mic handles are plastic and transmit some unwanted handling noise. Though, I give AKG credit for supplying rubber mic-stand holders that do a decent job of squelching handling noise associated with mics going in and out of the stand. The gain control slider/switch (I still can't determine if it is an adjustable slider or just a two-position switch) is ultra-finicky. Sometimes I think I moved the switch, but I can't hear a change, and other times I notice the change. Last is the "on/mute/off" switch. It is rather difficult to move the switch from "on" to "mute" without blowing right on by and into the "off" position. It then takes a few embarrassing seconds for the mic to sync back up with the receiver when you turn it back on. Maybe, it would be better if the "mute" function was a separate on/off button. Overall, considering the price of the competition, the quality of the AKG Perception is quite impressive.

Have used this mic a few times now in our church hall which seats about 350 people. We can walk to the other end of the hall around the bend and the mic still gets picked up with clear sound. Only thing to note is that when you initially turn the mic on, it takes a good 5 seconds before you can start speaking or singing into it. Good quality for the price. Very pleased with our purchase.

Buen producto aunque tiene mucho plastico de baja calidad a mi entender. El microfono de mano no aisla correctamente la manipulacion y eso se puede traducir en ruido molesto mientras se lo usa.

I have several of these wireless AKG Perception units (handheld, lapel and headset versions) and they all work superbly for my different needs. This is the first I have purchased from B&H and it is just like my others. B&H shipped the item very promptly and everything was as expected. The B&H price was better than my previous units, so I will return to B&H if I need any more. I'm very pleased with the AKG product and with B&H pricing and service.

question

How many mic systems can be running on the same Band or frequency? I have 2 A band sets now and need to add two more mics.
Asked by: Chris S.
The AKG Perception Wireless system offers 8 selectable carrier frequencies. In theory this means that 8 systems should be able to function simultaneously in each available frequency band. This would be under perfect conditions with no sources of interference. In order for you to have a more reliable setup we do not recommend using more than 4 systems or so in the same band which allows the additional channel selections to be used in case of interference or dropouts.

The Audio Bandwidth is listed twice. In one place it states 40 Hz to 20 KHz, while in the other it states 70 Hz to 20 KHz. Which one is right?
Asked by: Gerardo
There are separate specs for the receiver and mic/transmitter. The receiver's range is 40 Hz to 20 kHz and the mic/transmitter's range is 70 Hz to 20 kHz.
