    Teac CD-P650 reviews

CD Player with USB and iPod Digital Interface is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 52.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A highly satisfactory replacement I recently purchased this unit to replace a SONY single-play CD player that finally gave out after over twenty years of regular use. I have hooked this TEAC to my thirty plus year old NAD 7220 Power Envelope receiver and a pair of Cambridge M60 bookshelf speakers, and I couldn't be more pleased. The unit's operation is smooth and noiseless, the sound crisp and full. And I welcome the remote operation that was absent from my old SONY. It was a great discovery to find that B and H carried a quality single play CD unit at a less than professional audiophile level. Most employees at the national strip mall retailers, if they recognized the term CD player at all, only could offer the carousel-player option. I had no interest in considering these, adhering to the philosophy that when purchasing equipment that one plans to use daily, the fewer moving parts the better. Anyway, I am grateful to B and H for stocking this TEAC unit, and as always, the shipment arrived promptly as promised, securely packed and in excellent condition. I recommend this model to my fellow dinosaurs who still value the experience of handling the physical recording formats of their favorite artists, listening while in the comfort of their homes reading the liner notes for the umpteenth time, and who continue to dwell in an analogue musical universe that fails to be supplanted by a pair of ear buds connected to a incomprehensible lozenge one deposits in a shirt pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you care about how your CDs sound From the many reviews I've read, I think many people have missed the point of this player (TEAC CD P650). First, it is often erroneously referred to as a CD recorder which it is not. What it does do is rip CD files to a flash drive in mp3 format. This player does not excel at this (but only in the options and specs of the resulting ripped file.) Mechanically and operationally, it rips just fine. The resulting quality is the issue. However, I would never use this player for that purpose since good computer CD ripping software offers so many more output options with much better quality. Where this player excels is in the quality of CD playback. The 24-bit Burr-Brown DAC does a magnificent job of translating songs into accurate, detailed, and wonderfully rich analog sound. I can't believe the quality of the audio compared to a 1-bit DAC found in the typical CD player. The fact that it comes in a quality, name-brand unit for around $120 is astounding. Anyone needing a CD player for a good home audio system would be foolish not to consider this player. I, for one, am blown away and highly satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great low-cost CD and USB media player. After transferring my collection of 850 CDs onto a Sony HAP-Z1ES, I wanted to stream music into my workshop, a separate building about 250 feet away. I couldn't find any reasonably priced solution to do this, so I decided to buy this Teac player with USB input. I transferred most of the music files into MP3 format onto a 64GB USB drive, and now have a great music source while I work. I'm using an inexpensive Logitech active 3-speaker system with the Teac, and it sounds great. The only complaint I have is that the Teac player doesn't retain the shuffle play setting when turned off, and it has to be set every time I use it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great machine but conversion shaky I really like the CD Player, and being able to play MP3 cds and straight from the USB port is great. However, when I tried recording to a USB jump drive, I found that it wouldn't go straight through the CD. I may get the first 5 songs, then 8 songs, but it wouldn't go through the complete CD. I would clear things out, try the same CD, and get different results each time, then different CDs. What it did convert was good, but it just wouldn't go through the complete CD. I also had both old and new CDs. The CDs are in excellent shape because I never use them, just backups. I used the originals for this purpose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good sounding CD player I bought this unit to use in the bedroom to listen to music to fall asleep. I have it hooked up to a Creek OBH-11 headphone amp and use Sennheiser HD 595 headphones. Now I have a problem, the music sounds so good I want to really listen to the detail of the music instead of falling asleep. Oh well, what can you do.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from USB Play hit and miss Just got this two days ago. The CD appears to be playing fine, the USB flash is another situation. I have 110 songs on a 2GB flash. Some are wma and some Mp3. The unit will only play some of Mp3s and some of the wma's. My car and windows computer will play all of the songs regardless of format. The thumb drive is formatted FAT. An 80kps, 160 kps and a 256kps will play just not all 110 songs. What gives ???!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great! Worked right out of the box. Tried both a CD and an iPod. The iPod feature is a nice feature for a CD player in this price range.
