ART HeadAmp6 overview

  • 1Description

The HeadAmp6 from ART Pro Audio is a 6-channel stereo headphone amplifier designed for installed applications. The amp includes front and rear output jacks via 1/4" TRS connectors for flexible connectivity. Input is via XLR and 1/4" TRS jacks, with matching Thru jacks for bridging multiple amps. A front-panel 1/4" jack allows quick patch override of the rear inputs.

The amp also include a 6-channel Aux input section, which can be used to provide the often-requested "more me" function on a headphone mix. Each output channel features a dual-function balance control, which can pan between the left and right sides of the main signal, or vary the mix between the main and Aux inputs for that channel.

Front-panel Mono select buttons on each channel allow you to switch between 4 different operating modes; Stereo, Mono Left, Mono Right, and Mono Both for versatile monitoring options. An 8-segment LED level meter provides visual feedback of the main signal bus, while 4-segment meters are provided for each output channel.

    ART HeadAmp6 reviews

HeadAmp6 Rackmount 6-Channel Stereo Headphone Amplifier is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly the right mix of features I received my Art Headamp6 quickly after paying a reasonable price for it. I had looked at a few other contenders for 6-8 channels of headphone amplification, and this won out. In my studio I have two Rolls 5-channel headphone amps hardwired in the walls plus a simple headphone jack wired in the iso booth. Though I had two Studio mixes sent out line-level to the Rolls amps, I needed power for the iso jack. I realized I could get a lot more with a multichannel rackmounted unit. Today I installed additional wiring in the walls and rack and the unit is now tested and works great with lots of volume for all listeners. Here's how I have it wired up: Input from the main stereo mix from Cubase (monitor), the Headamp's convenient passthrough then goes to my power amp for my speakers. Rear Outputs: first 4 channels sent via rear panel jacks to the 2 single-channel inserts on each of the 2 Rolls units. 5th channel hardwired to the iso booth jack. All 6 redundant output jacks in the back are wired to open jacks in my patchbay for use by additional engineers etc. FRONT: all headphone jacks are available for monitoring what's going out into the studio and for control room listeners to plug in. A key feature that the Headamp6 Pro didn't have was FRONT-panel aux ins. I've mounted the Headamp6 right over the patchbays, allowing me to patch the outputs of any preamp (top row of the patchbay) into the any aux-in in the Headamp6 to allow more-me mixes. Testing tonight shows that all volume controls deliver plenty of volume to all jacks throughout the studio. The dual-function pan/main-aux knobs function as advertised, giving me main mixes all over plus four 'more-me' mixes. The buttons for mute L, mute R, and mono work well and light brightly in specific colors. The overall amp level is controlled with a master volume knob and shown on a multi-LED meter. The additional Direct-In jack might come in handy for patching in a CD player, etc to override all inputs for general listening. Lastly I like that the on-off switch is in the front. This is a great product - wouldn't change a thing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Headphone Haven I needed a way to keep everyone more involved during recording sessions (I was limited to just myself and the vocalist who could tune into tracks). I also wanted to keep going with XLR connectors. HeadAmp6 was the best value to accomplish this! It has plenty of power, even for times when using low-grade headphones. Finally am able to adjust volume for everyones preference, whew. Right out of the box it has worked beautifully. I am so glad I went by the reviews before me - Thanks ALL!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Tool Quality build (better then the competition). Functions as described. Note, each channel has a Balance control knob that changes function if an AUX signal is connected to the front TRS jack for the channel. The control is then a mix control. The L/R balance labels are very small and are easily overlooked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great headphone amp I was using the Behringer PowerPlay Pro 4 channel headphone amp but it had a hum in it. Even lifting the ground did't help. I had used Art equipment before and was very pleased with their quality and price so I bought the rackmount HeadAmp6. It is extremely quiet. This is a great amp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sounding Amp I own a great semi pro studio, and installed this amp last week. It sounds great. Drives 6 sets of headphones without any problems. The aux ins on each channel take care of any more me mixes. Do yourself a favor...get one.
