Canon 4181B005AA overview

  • 1Description

The Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital ELPH (Black) features a high-resolution 14.1MP CCD imaging sensor and an optically stabilized 4x UA (Ultra High Refractive Index Aspherical) zoom lens, which covers an equivalent focal range of 28-112mm without compromising the narrow profile Canon Digital EPLHs are known for. And for composing, reviewing, and editing your photos, the SD1400 IS features a bright 2.7" (230,000-dot) PureColor System LCD.

In addition to a choice of 6 JPEG file sizes (including 16:9) the SD1400 IS can capture HD 720p video clips (with monaural sound) up to 60 minutes (or 4GB per clip) as well as 640x480 @ 30 fps and 320x240 @ 30 fps for lower-resolution applications.

For fuss-free shooting, Canon's Smart AUTO mode automatically analyzes the scene and sets the best exposure based on 22 predefined shooting situations. For shooting under low lighting conditions, the ISO sensitivity of the PowerShot SD1400 IS can be dialed up to 1600, and when shooting in Low Light mode, expanded as high as an equivalent of ISO 6400.

Other image enhancing features found on the Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS include a DIGIC 4 image processor, Intelligent Contrast Correction, Motion Detection Technology, Face Detection Self-Timer, Red-eye Correction, Advanced AF/AE/FE/WB Face Detection, and a Face Detection Self-timer that enables you to get your own happy face into family portraits.

The Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS records images onto your choice of SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, MMC Plus Card, HC MMC Plus memory cards up to 16GB (not included) and powers off a rechargeable NB-4L lithium-ion battery, which is good for about 230 images-per-charge, or about 6 hours of playback time.

Capture Family and Friends With a 28mm Wide-Angle Lens & 4x Optical Zoom
The Canon commitment to innovation defines the excitement of the PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital ELPH with its 28mm Wide-Angle Lens and 4x Optical Zoom that makes it easy to get the inspiring, emotive close-ups that will make your images lasting keepsakes. This magnificent lens gives you the power to shoot distant subjects with razor-sharp precision and stunning lifelike color. So you can brilliantly capture a closer shot of a landscape, or a child's big smile.

The PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital ELPH is equipped with the acclaimed Canon Optical Image Stabilizer, which automatically detects and corrects camera shake - one of the leading causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. Even when zoomed in, you can get the steady, crisp, brilliant images you'll be proud to shoot and share. And the Canon Optical Image Stabilizer technology is so convenient to use. It functions perfectly with or without a flash.

720p HD Movie Capability and HDMI Connector for Easy Playback of Video and Photos on Your HDTV.
The PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital ELPH lets you record video in beautiful 720p high definition (1280 x 720 pixels). The camera also makes it easy to enjoy HD movies (and still photos) on your HDTV with a mini-HDMI connector for direct connection to a high definition TV monitor. You'll enjoy the HD experience with no degradation of image or audio in the signal, plus the ability to display up to 130 still images at once.
Bright 2.7-inch PureColor System LCD for Taking and Reviewing Photos
The PowerShot SD1400 IS gives you a large 2.7-inch LCD screen for excellent control when framing your shots. The Canon PureColor System LCD offers spectacular color, resolution and contrast even when viewed at an angle. The screen is highly durable and easy to see in any light with a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective coating. It also features Night Display for easy viewing in low light - a perfect feature for gathering friends and family around to see your images.
Smart AUTO Mode Selects the Proper Settings Based on 22 Predefined Shooting Situations
Just set the Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS to Smart AUTO and you're ready for maximum enjoyment from your picture-taking every time. It's a relaxing and satisfying way to shoot because you can completely concentrate on your subject knowing that the camera has the technical details covered. Advanced Canon technology intelligently analyzes your situation and shooting conditions. Then it automatically selects an appropriate setting from 22 specially defined settings. So whether you're photographing flowers, a captivating sunset, or your friends at the park, you can be confident that you're getting dramatic, memorable images.
Get Creative With Modes Such as Miniature Effect and Fisheye Effect.
The Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital ELPH offers creative effects similar to those found in certain professional lenses. Miniature Effect creates an illusion where very large objects appear in miniature proportions. Turn soaring cityscapes into a scene in seemingly dollhouse-like proportions. Fisheye Effect uses barrel distortion to warp the image around the center, giving a distinctive curvature effect to the photo. The curvilinear images produced by Fisheye Effect can suggest the curve of the Earth, the inside of a dome, or the image you see through the peephole of a door.
New Smart Shutter Technology Automatically Takes a Picture When the Subject Smiles or Winks.
Smart Shutter, which includes Smile Self-Timer, Wink Self-timer and Face Self-timer, detects faces in the scene and releases the shutter automatically in response to the appearance of an additional face, or when a smile or sassy wink occurs. These technologies take the guesswork out of your photography, allowing you to focus solely on your subject and get the perfect shot.
DIGIC 4 Image Processor
Enables accurate color renditions and fast image processing times.
Shoot in Low Light Mode for Dimly Lit Situations
With an ISO of 400 - 6400, the Low Light mode takes the Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS boldly into the shadows! Now even scenes notorious for having insufficient light, such as those lit by candles, fire, or street lamp, come through in fantastic color and clarity, with less noise. You can keep the feel of the scene intact without adding additional light, so the result will be scenes with the visual accuracy, depth and clarity you expect from a Canon camera.
AF/AE/FE/WB Face Detection and Intelligent Contrast Correction
For optimized portraits and better overall picture quality regardless of your subject matter.

    Canon 4181B005AA reviews

PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital ELPH (Black) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 319.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital ELPH I bought this camera to replace my SD890. I bought the 890 to replace my 300(which I still have and love). The 890 is no elph. It's too fat and heavy for me. The 1400 is a great camera. It's the smallest camera with the most features I could find. The 4x zoom is very responsive and the images always appear steady in the viewfinder. Canon fixed the photo/video selector switch design and the zoom toggle is better too. The pics are crisp and the HD video is a plus. I use mine with a neck lanyard and you forget it's there. I take it everywhere. I use it for fishing, boating biking etc. Only wish they had a water resistent one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A DEFINITE recommendation! I bought this camera for my wife... she liked the pink color. She LOVED the fact that it was very easy to use, but most importantly had a quick start up. With a toddler, we can't always rely on our cell phone cameras to load up. She can whip the PowerShot ELPH out, and snap a pic and not miss a beat! The in-camera tutorial is easy to use and easy to turn off. It has given her and I a bunch of ideas of photos to take of our son! Compact, easy to use, crisp pictures with a ton a features. This camera is the perfect companion when you don't want to bring a bulkier camera along.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from sd1400 is a great camera being a compulsive documenter i carry this camera around all the time in a pouch on my waistband. it is lightweight, and not too obtrusive when i have it programmed to be MUTE. the photos are sharp enough (not as great as with my nikon d70 but oh well) and the video is good enough (i never did buy the nikon d90 which i think shoots videos and probably is sharper). all in all, i am quite pleased with this camera. i've had the sd1200, the sd1300 and this sd1400 is smaller and lighter with similar quality of photos. (i have not compared the sharpness of the photos with those of its predecessors but if there were a big difference i would have noticed.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very compact and good image quality I wanted a camera with manual exposure controls, but my family insisted on this one. It wasn't a bad choice at all though! It actually takes very nice photos and videos. The battery life is great (much better than my last camera) and it fits well in my small hands. The only real problem I face on a regular basis with this camera is the focus. I mean, it's not terrible, but I shoot a lot of macro and sometimes it's hard to get the right focus when I'm up close. I suppose that's my fault for not getting a camera with manual focus, but it's just something I've noticed. When I do get the focus right, though, the image turns out great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful! I bought this camera right before going on vacation and so far i love it! The size and weight make it a perfectly convenient point and shoot (though not too small to be easy to use or to get lost in my bag). I like how the auto setting automatically adjusts to use the appropriate setting mode though i can set a particular shooting mode if i wish. I was able to shoot some artsy photos easily with some of the built in features including turning everything except 1 color into back and white. I also shot a couple of short movies which were great quality picture and sound though i didnt seem able to flip it to take vertical videos. Overall i have only had the camera for about a week and have only positive to say so far!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still one of the best aim and shoots I use it for site surveys and for family snap shots. It works great with wide and tight angles for both those subjects. For it's size and price it has all of the features I need and I love the fact that it captures 720p HD video with AWESOME stablization. Who needs a video camera like a Flip when you have this. It's been dropped twice and didn't even scuff too. If I had to say anything not so great about this camera is sometimes it might feel a little low on features but extra features are seldom used by comsumers and prosumers in a pocket camera. I do need to figure out if the f-stop can be manually adjusted. That'd be nice for out of focus background when shooting people. It's a great camera all around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Point and Shoot! I'm a professional photographer and I had to have one of these. They're small and compact which make it nice and easy to carry around. The image quality is excellent and the auto focus is fast and intelligent in recognizing faces. The video mode is awesome! Captures HD footy and looks great after you up convert it to Apple Pro Res. Also... There is a whole myriad of fun features that are found in the menus like fisheye, and macro shooting styles, and post processing effects like b&w or sephia. Honestly... for the price... You can't beat it. Really fun to play with, easily totable, and great capture quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great camera at a great price You can't go wrong for good quality shots using this camera. Some reviewers have bagged on it because these people don't understand the difference between a point-shoot camera and a pro-line SLR. If you want a super high performance camera and have the $$$ for all the trimmings, by gumm, do it. But for super easy shooting and toting for a totally affordable price, get this. It's perfect for people who just want to take some great photos with ease. I would recommend this to everyone, except for professional photographers, but then again, if you were a pro, you wouldn't be reading this point-shoot review, now would you?
