Canon 0284B006AA overview

  • 1Description

Mixing a comfortable short telephoto focal length with optimized close-up capabilities, the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM from Canon is an EF-S-mount prime designed for APS-C-format DSLRs. As a true macro optic, this lens affords a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with a 7.9" minimum focusing distance, and its 96mm equivalent focal length also makes it an ideal option for portraiture. The optical design affords a high degree of sharpness and resolution across the image frame and individual elements have been treated with a Super Spectra coating to minimize lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions. The lens also employs an Ultrasonic Motor along with an internal focusing design to realize quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

Short telephoto prime is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-S-mount DSLRs and provides a 96mm equivalent focal length.
Ideal for macro shooting, this lens offers a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 7.9" to suit working with close-up subjects.
Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
An Ultrasonic Motor (USM) is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.
Internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length during operation and contributes to faster, more responsive focusing performance.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

    Canon 0284B006AA reviews

    EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 495.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice! This is the best lens canon offers, FOR the money. Works very nice on ANY close up situation. Close up portraits are a breeze and the depth of field is easy to control. This lense is perfect for a 1.6 crop camera. You would have to spend 4 times the amount to match the portrait capabilities of this lens. I use this lense many times for special wedding photos. The blur is as nice as my 70-200 2.8 IS and can be used in tight quarters. Little slow on the focus but does it really matter for still shots? It is not a L lense quality, but seems fine. For the money it is a must have. If money is no object then opt for the 85mm f/1.2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice macro lens I use this lens on Canon XSi. I had to decide between this lens and 100mm macro. Decided to go with this lens based on reviews (recommended this for cropped body cameras). I did not have any macro shooting experience when I got and was a little disappointed when first used it. The reason for my disappointment was slow autofocus. Now when I have some experience I love it. Here are the reasons I find it an excellent lens: 1) When you get used to it autofocus is not a problem. It works very well even when you shoot 1x1. 2) It is very very sharp. 3) Solid build. 4) Not heavy. 5) Nice bokeh. 6) Not cheap but not overpriced. After using it for a while I fall in love with macro photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value This lens is a 3-in-1 Grand Slam value! I have owned and used this lens for approximately 2 years. This excellent prime lens is my work horse providing a near normal field of view for work as a normal lens, while also having a nearly perfect focal length for portraits; and (of course) it is an excellent performer as a macro lens having true 1:1 reproduction capability. Build quality is very nice, with a solid feel. The auto-focusing is fast and spot on while having full-time manual focusing available makes tweaking the final shot a breeze. The fast f/2.8 glass is super sharp allowing me to create impressive images whether enlarged and printed or posted on-line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for close up photography I bought this lense to take close up pictures of flowers and nature. This lense provides excellent pictures of flowers that are clear with a blurred background thus making flowers stand out. However, there is one issue everyone needs to know about this lense and the optional close up 250D or 500D screw on lense. When you are attaching the optional 250D or 500D lense, you have to be extremely careful. The optional close up lense is made of metal, and the camera lense threads are plastic. If you are not careful when screwing on the optional lense, you can strip the plastic threads on the camera lense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fab Macro Sharp as a Tack I purchased this to replace my 100mm Canon 1:1 for Film SLRs (about 20 years old?). This to go with my not so state of the art but very functional Canon EOS xSi which I love. I take photos of fishing flies (lures) and guitar parts as well as complete instruments. So far I am LOVING this lens. The old 100mm was very fussy about focusing macro shots. This 60mm is NOT. I can set it and forget it if I need some quick, down and dirty shots for the web. Or for more detailed stuff, as long as I use the tripod, the auto is great or I can flip it to manual and position the depth of field exactly where I want it. At the price, totally worth it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp and Versatile Lens I purchased this lens to compliment my Sigma 18-35 f1.8 Lens as I wanted a lens to fill the gap below telephoto and my Sigma. The 60mm field of view equivalent on my Canon T5i (700D) is 96mm which is great for portraits and pets. The macro setting was another reason to buy and frankly I'm loving its capability. For product shots to the creepy bugs and flowers it's awesome. The images have been pretty sharp as well. This isn't a great lens for video as the USM motor is kind of loud when focusing. I find the lens focus-hunts a bit in lower light. I'm giving it 5 stars though because of its versatility, low cost and sharp imagery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality, cheaper price I bought this lens yesterday for my t5i and I was skeptical at first. I have never bought a macro lens before and I wasn't really sure what to expect. After playing around with it for a while and taking multiple test shots, I started to get a hang of it. The 1:1 shots are incredibly crisp and sharp and I was genuinely surprised at how detailed they were. Normally to get a shot like that I would have had to do some cropping in post, but now I don't have to. The lens also functions well as a regular prime lens too. The autofocus is exceptionally fast, probably the fastest that I own. My only complaint is that sometimes the AF is a little slow if you are up close. What I mean by that, is that the lens zooms in then out, and then steps into focus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice lens for food photography My wife shoots food photography, and uses this lens almost exclusively, paired with a Canon 7D Mark II. We borrowed this lens along with several other lenses for a couple of months before making this purchase, so we are pretty confident this is the best lens out there for her shooting style. (Which is indoor, handheld, natural lighting, up-close, macro food photography... nearly all of the pictures on her blog@ were shot with this lens.) The AF is fast and quiet, and the pictures come out very sharp.I wish there were an L-series lens with about 100mm FF equivalent at a 1.6x crop factor, but this one is pretty close with full time manual focus and good optics.Highly recommended for similar purposes.
