    Canon 2532A006AA reviews

EF 500mm f/4L IS (Image Stabilizer) USM Lens is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 121.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Everything you'd expect Wow! Pretty much says it all. So far I'm very impressed with the image quality. Sharp, crisp detail. It is heavy so it takes some practice to get the hang of using it. I'm still in the early stages of the learning curve. Like anything else in photography the more you practice the better you get. In my case it's not the lens but the lens holder(me) causing any problems. I rated it 4 stars simply because of cost and weight. I own the 24-70mmF2.8, the 70-200mmF2.8 and the 300mmF4 and the 1D MK IV body. This was a HUGE jump for me. It is a big lens but can be managed. I'm 61 yoa and I anticipate using this lens for a long, long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Real Deal This is the second of these that I've used. Both were optically outstanding. All functions work well. It's hand-holdable for brief periods, and is right on the edge of being truly portable. I wouldn't want to lug anything heavier for any distance. If you really want your bird and nature images to have that professional look, you need some big L glass like this. Ideally you should also have a 100-400mm L for closer work and action shots. The 500 will shoot excellent macros and close-ups, but it really proves it's worth at distances beyond 50 feet. We've done excellent bird portraits at 150 feet with monopod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Lens ! I will use this lens primarily for Nature Photography. The biggest lens i had up to this point was the 100-400 zoom which i really like, and have had good results with. The 500mm f4 lens is in a whole nother class, it is much bigger than i expected, it gives me the ability to reach out and get crystal clear shots. Now i know how wildlife photographers are able to acheive such great shots. It took me almost two years to save up for this lens and i was scared to make the purchase. Now that i have i feel that i have a fantastic lens that will bring me great shots for years to come!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from INSANELY Nice Lens! I have had this for about three months now, and it is a very nice lens. It is my second 500, my first being a Nikkor 500 F4P long ago. I got it to shoot wildlife, and it is doing a great job. The IS is a nice touch, I am finding myself shooting from a vehicle now and rolling a coat up, sticking it in the window, and placing the lens on the coat. With the IS on I am getting tack sharp images. (My subjects don't tolerate humans but seem to be fine within reason with a vehicle.) The IS is a bit noisy, but very stable, and the focus preset is a handy feature. If you are going to get this lens, definately get Canon's circular polariser.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Try it - you will buy it This is a fantastic lens, I use it for wildlife and for sport. By sport I mean Cricket and I marry it to either 1.4 or 2x converter. Results are outstanding. I am unable to hand hold even with the IS. I use King Cobra mounted on a Gitzo carbon fibre tripod - it's like power steering for the lens. The balance is perfect - control tilt, shift, pan with ones little finger. Go out and try it - you will buy it for sure. I give it 110% and recommend to any serious sport, wildlife or even landscape/portrait photographer. Use as video - you have to see the results - fantastic The results are superb.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding bird and wildlife lens. There are many excellent reviews for this product so none of this will be shocking. I am using this lens for birds and wildlife; it is extremely sharp. I use it with 1.4X most of the time; focus is fast and it is still very sharp. I also occasionally use it with a 2X and it has produced great 20 X 24 prints. One word of caution, this combination (with 2X) auto-focuses with 1D(s) mark III but will not with 40D or 50D.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Wildlife Lens ... This lens is used almost exclusively for wildlife and more specifically for flying birds (mostly raptors). Previously I used the Canon EF 100-400 L and got lots of very nice shots, but this lens has moved me into a completely different world. It is heavy but can be handheld for short periods of time at fast shutter speeds. At the prompting of my wildlife shooting friends I built my system from the ground up ... a Gitzo 5541 tripod and a Wimberley gimbal head series II. This lens is so fast and so sharp it is hard to describe. I am currently using it with a Canon EOS 7D. I have two other L series lenses and this is by far the best, probably because it is a prime lens (the color and tonality is outstanding). I had to wait for about a year before my purchase but boy was it worth it ... you can probably tell that I am extremely pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the sharpest super telephotos! On both 1D Mark III and 1Ds Mark III this lens is tack sharp. At least my copy is as sharp as the legendary EF 300/2.8 L IS. It delivers outstanding image quality. Even with the Canon EF Extender 2x II the quality is still acceptable. And still usable handheld for a few shots. I use this lens for sports (sailing). It's the best super telephoto you can get in terms of image quality, focal length, size/weight. Occasionally I use it for wilde life and in the zoo.
