PH-22 Panhead is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as others I tried this briefly but changed it for a Davis & Sanford FZ10 as part of the VOYAGER3H Tripod kit. I found the FZ10 has a smoother tilt, less inertia required to start a movement, was more consistent. The tilt which I could adjust to achieve the drag I wanted. On the PH-22 I felt it locked up too abruptly. I couldn't find a happy medium where the tilt held (this is with the great and lightweight 10.5 OZ Sanyo FH1 camcorder) The FZ10 has a separate pan lock as opposed to the PH-22 combined pan/tilt lock. One this that I cannot understand about ALL these heads is why they have the tilt bellow the horizon adjust. To my mind it would make more sense to have the tilt at the top nearer the lens center. Depending on the design you may be able to use it that way. But it needs a bubble level in the right place to work. Pros; the PH-22 has a definitely better engineered quick release. It is 1/2 inch less tall. Has better tactile feel, the handles have that nice silky smooth finish. This may be available cheaper as part of a kit as per the D&S

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great for photography, fair for video I bought this head as a dual purpose head-for photography and video. It is stable and smooth for video but the handles ar short, too short for good control in video, The movement is very sensitive to the tightening of the handles. It is hard to get the handles tight enough for movement with out over tightening. Well made and good buy for money but not a good video head.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worst tripod head ever! First off, when I got the head the handles had this sticky stuff on them and I had to literally peel the plastic covering off. I covered them with tape and that solved that problem. Now, a month later, after having numerous incidents with the handles not staying tight enough, one of them has now been stripped of its threads. Vanguard does offer replacement handles, so this one is going into the trash, and I'll have to shell out money for a new 2-way tripod head.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective plastic handles I bought one of these and the plastic pan & tilt levers were soft and sticky, as if they'd been slightly melted. You could gouge them with a thumbnail. I exchanged it for another one that had the same problem. I'm returning it, too. Either Vanguard is making a really funky product, or B&H has a warehouse full of bad ones. Beware.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smooth I use this with HD video. Works great! The only thing I wish is that the tilt handle/knob was smaller. Like a wing nut to it would fit into a tripod bag getter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid performance Amazing solid performance from this pan head when it comes to steady video shooting and photography. Tilt and pan are easily controlled and adjusted as desired.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ph-22 Panhead by Vanguard Feels and looks well made. I like it very much. I bought to replace the head that came with a Vanguard tripod which is not a fluid-movement panhead.
