Nady SP-5 overview

  • 1Description

The Nady SP-5 is a handheld cardioid dynamic microphone offering a cost-effective solution for reproduction of vocals and speech in public address and live stage applications. Its dynamic element utilizes a neodymium magnet for high output without excessive preamp gain and delivers a frequency response of 50 Hz to 12 kHz. Low noise and distortion are achieved through the incorporation of a humbucking voice coil and the transformerless design.

The internal rubber shockmount isolates the mic element from the body, reducing noise from microphone handling. The SP-5 features durable, all-metal construction for tour-worthy toughness.

Balanced, natural sound with low-end warmth, midrange presence, and smooth high end
Powerful neodymium mic element delivers a high output and low noise
Ultralight aluminum humbucking voice coil and transformerless design provide low noise and distortion
Tight cardioid polar pattern provides excellent off-axis rejection for superior gain before feedback
Specially designed internal rubber shockmount for cartridge minimizes handling noise
Rugged construction includes the zinc die-cast housing and steel mesh windscreen with anti-dent ring
Gold-plated XLR 3-pin connector resists tarnish and maximizes conductivity

    Nady SP-5 reviews

SP-5 Handheld Cardioid Dynamic Microphone is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent value, don't let the low price concern you. I own 12 of these and used them for a steady working weekend band for 7-8 years.. The band was noted for vocals. We did 50's and 60's material including vocal heavy doowop tunes. We A/B'd them against the industry standard, as well as their standard neodymium mics (you shurely would recognize the name, I'll beta). Very little difference, nothing a tiny EQ tweek couldn't fix. After the comparison, 4 of the 5 of us switched to the Nady SP-5. Our keyboard player needed a wireless (industry standard) for solo singing spots and couldn't use a corded mic. Often, mismatched mics can cause monitor eq issues (feedback) due to differing frequency responses, but we never had that issue, since the mics sounded so similar. We drug them around for years, did not baby them, and had only one failure (out of 12 mics). Not really a failure, the head broke off when dropped. It still worked but the housing was broken. I know this is a pretty glowing review for an inexpensive mic, but I feel these provided me with significant value for my $. Current pricing will get you 14 of these for the price of one of those. I'm not a gear snob and am not afraid to talk up an inexpensive piece of gear if it does the job. The Nady SP-5 has been a top notch investment fo me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sounds fine. I've owned plenty of dynamic mikes and this sounds like most of them. Clear uncolored sound. Perhaps a bit sensive to pops on P's but it has built in thin pop-filter. More rugged than I expected, weighted perfect and metal feel. Perfect for fun family jam session with grandkids. At this price, you can treat them as disposable. have spares. Screen is plenty strong and should be ok even if dropped. No mike clip. I'll order a couple more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Accurate, rugged, budget friendly. I've been using a half dozen of these for the last 14 years for a weekend warrior band and podcasting uses. Doesn't color the sound, zero failures... Good feedback rejection, low to no handling noise.... No, it's not an SM58 by any means, but it doesn't cost as much either... All things considered I like these.... but prefer the warmer presence if the Behringer XM8500... but for backing vocals... this is ideal for me...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good value basic mic Admittedly this is a basic mic but it does what it is supposed to do. No on/off switch. I bought this to use for an audience mic for questions during presentations so all I really needed was something for vocal amplification. I can't say how it would be for other uses.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great mic for the money I bought 3 of these and they are performing wonderfully. The sound quality isn't extraordinary but these work well for on-location video and podcasts.
