The Norbert Filmmaker Kit from K-Tek is based around the Norbert Filmmaker frame, an adjustable black aluminum frame for attaching a video DSLR or other small videocamera as well as a multitude of accessories. The kit also includes dual locking handgrips, 8" standard 15mm carbon rods, and a quick-release plate for Manfrotto tripods.
With the included 15mm carbon-fiber rods attached, the Norbert Filmmaker Kit is designed to host any accessory you might want to add to the front of your camera, such as follow focus devices, lens supports, and matte boxes. The accessory frame has several standard 1/4" 20 and 3/8" 16 threads around its four sides plus about 20 accessible shoe mounts around the sides and top for attaching microphones, monitors, audio receivers, lights, mount adapters, articulating arms, etc.
The Filmmaker version of the Norbert frame has adjustable sides to accommodate taller cameras. Turn the knobs near the bottom of the sides, and add up to an inch (2.5 cm) to the frame's height.
With so many ways to mount, the Filmmaker Kit is a truly modular system. For instance, leveraging the kit's dual locking handgrips, you could easily install a longer pair of rods to the included 15mm rod mount and add a shoulder-mount from a third-party vendor.
The Filmmaker Kit includes a quick-release plate for Manfrotto tripods. For the Canon 7D, K-Tek recommends its dovetail plate KN3235 and KN3237 (not included) because these offer a tighter fit than the Manfrotto plate. The KN3237 is slightly taller than the KN3235, which makes for a perfect fit if you need to use a matte box.
