Thanks to the GPU-Xpander Desktop 4 with 4 PCI Express 16-Channel Slots from Cubix, you can add four PCI Express x16 slots to your computer system without overheating your computer or over-burdening its power supply. This expansion chassis is a separate hardware unit that has its own cooling fan and its own power supply, which can handle up to 1,200W of power. As such, it allows you to connect high-powered, professional-grade graphics processing unit (GPU) cards to the hardware unit that would otherwise be too taxing to run within your desktop tower PC or rack mount computer. While especially well-suited for handling GPU adapters, this unit also supports other PCIE adapters that are enabled with FireWire, USB 2.0, Gbps Ethernet fiber-optic or copper interfaces, or that are meant for professional audio applications.
To get started, you will need to plug-in the included PCIE 16x host adapter in an available PCIE slot in your desktop, tower, or rackmount computer. After, simply connect the GPU-Xpander, and power up and install the appropriate device drivers for each GPU or other PCIE adapter that you've inserted in the GPU-Xpander. You can also use the GPU-Xpander with laptops; however, you will need to buy a separately sold adapter. In terms of scalability, if your computer has multiple PCIE slots, you can install a host adapter in each slot and connect each adapter to a GPU-Xpander.
All told, the GPU-Xpander is a PCIE bus extender that won't tax your current computer and that provides a more economical alternative to buying an expensive, specialized workstation for handling your more demanding computer applications.
