Etymotic Research ER-4PT overview

  • 1Description

The ER-4PT microPro In-Ear Stereo Headphones from Etymotic Research provide professional-quality audio in a lightweight and comfortable design ideal for traveling professionals. The headphones use ACCU·Driver balanced armature drivers to produce detailed, realistic audio with better than 86% accuracy from 20 Hz to 16 kHz. The drivers are precision matched and custom tuned, and also deliver extremely high output sensitivity. The headphones come with an industry-exclusive channel-matching compliance graph that's signed by the Etymotic engineer who matched and tuned the drivers.

In order to provide the best fit for comfort and noise isolation, the headphones come with 7 different types and sizes of interchangeable eartips. Using the proper eartip creates a seal in the ear that provides up to 98% (35-42 dB) noise isolation, and also reduces the risk of listening to your audio at unsafe levels. In addition to the supplied tips, a separate CUSTOM·FIT option lets you enjoy fully customized eartips.

The headphones are designed with lasting durability, and feature a braid-reinforced cable for extremely low microphonic effect. The cable has a gold-plated 3.5mm stereo mini plug and a 1/4" adapter is included for use with a variety of consumer and professional audio devices. Replaceable ACCU·Filters protect the headphone drivers from ear wax and other debris. Other accessories include a filter tool, shirt clip, travel pouch, and storage box.

    Etymotic Research ER-4PT reviews

ER-4PT microPro In-Ear Stereo Headphones is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Immersive sound experience I lost my prized HF5's and decided to make the leap to the ER-4pt's. I am pleased with my choice. These have a more robust construction than the HR5s, which felt dainty in comparison. The sound is a little more accurate and immersive than the HR5's. I love to close my eyes and being able to visualizes the musicians playing the individual instruments rather than the coarse overview of the music that I got from every other headphones I have owned. I am very pleased with these accurate, pocket friendly earphones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb! Re- purchased again, as I've had them before since the 90ties. Nothing comes close for the money, esp. for classical and jazz. I have never tried IEMs for many hundreds of dollars more, but I don't see how they can be magnitudes better. And the isolation can't be beat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and powerful I have worn these: - on stage to monitor playing my own instrument = Awesome - in coffee shops to focus on completing work projects while completely blocking out people talking in distracting shrill and loud voices = Success - to monitor video camera audio feed = Not So Good These earbud headphones clean up the sound a bit. Sounds perfect! That makes them great for every purpose other than listening for audio noise and distortion. They are great at isolating other environment noises, even loud stage noise. It really is pro-level sound that it easy to put in a pouch and carry in your pocket. I like that it doesn't look like it's anything special--but it is. People should only wear these when and where you feel safe. The way it isolates and blocks sounds around you could be dangerous as you cannot hear cars or people approaching. Nobody wants to be a victim. If you listen with just one earbud in, you can have an idea of what's going on, but you've still blocked half of the sound. It has its appropriate uses and places.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth sounding Used with my Fiio X5. Very smooth sound, no frequency aberrations. Better fit with Comply foam ear plugs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ER-4PT MicroPro In-Ear Stereo Headphones Most neutral and accurate IEM ever used. Use it with laptop at work and iPod. Sounds better with good lossless source.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Real enjoyment. Excellent balanced sound. As usual : best sound with good source and good headphone amp. That's the best earbuds i've ever owned compared to high end models (Grado GR10: harsh sound even after a long break in, Senheiser Momentum in-ear not balanced: too much bass and less refined sound. I use ER-4PT with M2TECH Hiface DAC, the EXCELLENT GRADO HEADPHONE AMP RA1(battery powered is the best) and Iphone or Mac: wonderful sound, wide, balanced, precise, natural.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Sound Quality, Ergonomics lacking I'm an acoustics professional with a pro audio background, and after much research and comparative listening, the ER-4's are the clear winner on the IEM market. The frequency balance is as close to flat as I've found in an IEM and compares favorably to my reference headphones and loudspeakers including HD650's and Focal monitors. The soundstage, isolation, and dynamics are as good as more expensive IEM's I've tried. The only drawback is the physical design and included eartips. Comfort is a personal issue, but I do find that some of the newer IEM designs on the market are much more comfortable and generally ergonomic to use and carry. I can appreciate the utilitarian nature of these, however, and the massive cost savings vs many of those IEM's I think mostly makes up for it. You may just find yourself more likely to want to go custom (as I am about to) than you would with other high-end universals. Even then you'll probably be comparable or a little lower in price, so that's not such a terrible thing really.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect In-Ear headphones !!! I purchased the Etymotic Research ER-4PT because I was going on a plane trip and I wanted the maximum passive noise isolation and the clearest sound reproduction possible. These ER-4PT headphones did not disappoint. Once in the ear, most noise, specially plane engine noise, disappeared and I could hear my music clearly. You will pay a premium for this luxury but it is well worth it since the clarity of sound is awesome. They don't have the extravagant bass that other brands provide, you will hear a true representation of the music: clear highs, mediums, and lows without any extra. The only negative about these headphones is that after a few hours your ears will start to hurt with the flange ear tips. I've tried the others and they are marginally more comfortable. I'm considering splurging for the custom ear tips in order to get a precise fit. Etymotic is one of the only companies that offer this service at this price range!!Overall, these headphones provide excellent, accurate sound which take a while to get used to if you use one of the other exaggerated brands, but pretty soon the true sound will win you over. Highly recommended.
