Vello BD-C580 overview

  • 1Description

The Vello Bounce Dome for Canon 580EX (original version) Flash will diffuse the light output of a Canon 580EX (only original version) flash, producing softer shadows and a softer, more natural glow rather than the harsher effect when using a direct flash. The diffuser provides even coverage across the entire frame, and is ideal for use with lenses from 15mm to 200mm in 35mm format (and equal in other formats as well).

The Bounce Dome simply slides onto and off the flash with custom fitting, without the need for touch fastener tabs.

Bounce Dome (Diffuser) for Canon 580EX (original ver.) Flash is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 235.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice product! I use this product when shooting indoors at weddings and receptions when there is low light, high ceilings, and direct flash is needed. I've enjoyed using my bounce dome. It functions well, and noticeably diffuses the light both when the flash is pointed upwards (creates a nice evening burst of light at close range), and when it's applied directly. It's a little hard to slip on when you're in a rush, but it definitely holds firm to the flash, yet still comes off without much difficulty. All-in-all a great product and I would definitely recommend it to others.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works well for the price, but falls off The Flash diffuser does what it claims, it works well and softens the harshness of fairly close pictures of people. For the price it is a good value. However, it falls off the flash A LOT. People are regularly telling me it fell off and pick it up. I've tried squeezing it so that it has a tighter fit. That helps for a few minutes until the plastic resumes it's original shape. I only gave 3 stars based on it falling off. I would try another brand. I might try adding a rubber band or something. For the cost though I'll probably try a different brand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pearstoen Bounce Dome diffuser After reading a few photography books, all of which recommended a diffuser for my 580 EX II Canon flash, I finally bought this diffuser. I was initially worried about how something so cheap would work. Once I got it though, tried it out (shot a few pics without and with the diffuser), I am completely sold! This diffuser works like a charm, and really softens the flash and reduces sharp shadows. Makes the 580EXII too long to fit in its original small pouch when left on the flash, though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product for such a small price I'm a photographer taking small steps at a time to work up to being professional/paid photographer. I bought this diffuser after being dissappointed that my Canon flash didn't come with one like everyone said it would. I was slightly skeptical on buying a non-canon brand, but it doesn't really matter. The dome was hard to get on the flash the first couple of uses and I quickly realized there is only one exact way it goes on. But after that small hurdle it was fine. I recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE SMALL GIANT I use this product with my SPEEDLITE 580EX2 along with a Canon 5D Mark II to shoot special evening events and concerts. I love how it diffuses the harshness of flash given the closeness of the subject I am shooting, and just lends the picture an overall softness that looks great as an end product. If you are not looking for blown-out white faces or foreheads - this is a great easy to use tool. If you are, however, looking to get your subjects a little blown out for black and white stills - simply take it off (or not). Either way experiment with this little gadget for nicer-looking stills.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as advertised This is definately a must in my camera bag. I'm constantly bouncing my external flash and this helps spread the light more evenly and even helps with color balance. I was hoping it would also help diffuse for straight on flash, but that's not the case and it's not advertised as such. Really its only drawback is its loose fit. It's easy to get on and off but I worry it will fall off while switching flash angles. Overall it's a great product especially for the price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would recommend this product I used the bounce dome for my Canon 580EX II flash at a wedding that I recently shot. The light output was great. It did not create harsh shadows on the subjects. I also used it to do some shots at the reception, which was held at night outdoors. While some of the shots do have shadows in them, they are not as harsh as the one produced by the flash without the diffuser. The only con that I can think of is that if the diffuser is on the flash, it will not fit in the case. You need to remove the diffuser in order to get the flash to fit in the pouch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works surprising well For indoor shoots. Pop this on your flash which is set to ETTL. Set the camera to manual. Set shutter speed to 1/125 and F-stop to f5.6. Set the ISO to 400. Maybe a + 2/3 flash compensation, depending on the camera. Tilt the head at a 45 degree angle and fire away. The light is noticeably softer. Works great with my grand kids. Uses it straight up for the bare bulb effect.
