The dedicated Vello ES-62 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Canon's EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens. It is primarily used to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of it. A dedicated hood is crafted to perfectly suit the specific focal length of the lens it is designed for. Additionally, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. The bayonet mount is designed to also work in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution.

It’s actually 2 pieces, one is an adapter then the lens hood is supposed to attach to the adapter piece. However, I struggled with it for over 20 minutes and could not get it to properly fit. I’m not sure if it’s a defective piece, or just a poorly executed product. One of the sections will fit in, but the other won’t which leaves it lopsided & unsecure. You can also try to force it, but only able to do so when not attached to the lens (which defeats the purpose) & it’s not an ideal method since it’ll break down and eventually break the product. Even after forcing it still doesn’t fit securely. It would be terrible to have to struggle with a lens hood when shooting and have it end up falling off or not attaching at all, while also trying to capture the shot. Not worth it. Don’t waste your money!

2 pc. plastic lens hood which is a little difficult to attach to the camera, but should work just fine.

Can I use this with a screw on ND filter?

The Vello ES-62 is designed exactly like the OEM. It is 2 pieces -- the first piece screws on to the 52mm thread on the front of the lens. This piece has the bayonet mount. The actual hood will bayonet mount onto the first piece. If you want to use a filter, they can first attach a filter to the lens and then, if the filter allows, screw the ES-62 adapter onto the filter. The only issue may be vignette, though at 50mm it should not be a problem.

Will this work with the older EF 50mm 1:1.8 Mark I? My lens doesn't have an integral bayonet, but it looks like this has a 52mm screw in attachment, is that correct?

The Vello ES-62 Dedicated Lens Hood might fit the old version of the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens. It has not been tested. The Canon lenses versions 1and 2 do have a 52mm filter thread.
