Vello ET-74 overview

  • 1Description

The dedicated Vello ET-74 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Canon's EF 70-200mm f/4L and 70-200mm f/4L IS lenses. It is primarily used to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of it. A dedicated hood is crafted to perfectly suit the specific focal length of the lens it is designed for. Additionally, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. Also, since the end of the lens is extended, you get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The bayonet mount is designed to also work in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution.

Designed to accommodate the exact angle of view of the camera's lens
Minimizes flare and ghosting by blocking out stray light
Protects your lens from accidental impact and the elements

    Vello ET-74 reviews

ET-74 Dedicated Lens Hood is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty easy choice There are three choices for getting a hood for your 70-200 f/4L lens. You can pay about 40 bucks for a plastic hood from Canon. You can buy four hoods from Vello for about the same cost. Or, you can buy one hood from Vello and have $30 to put toward other gear. The hood is really durable and handles scratches better than the Canon hood. It does fit tight, but that's a good thing. It does break in and get easier with some time on the lens. Id rather have a snug piece than something that's loose and rattles off. The only thing the Canon hood has that the Vello doesn't, is the felt type material on the inside. But that doesn't make a bit of difference. I'm not one to throw money away, so I'll be buying Vello hoods from now on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reasonable price Serves the same purpose as the original. It fits very tight, I can only mount it about a quarter turn. Although it will not fall off easy, it will take some time of continuous use to get it to lock all the way. I modified my hood, cut it about an inch shorter. White lens plus a very long hood is just like a magnet to peoples eyes. Lens with hood attached fits my bag and easier to carry. So far my photographs are okay, no glare problems. I usually use this telephoto lens hood outdoor when the sun is high above. Sun close to the horizon could be a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like this lens more than the canon hood. I have both the Vello ET74 lens hood, and the Canon lens hood that came with my 70-200mm f/4 IS USM lens. The Vello fits just as well as the more expensive canon hood. The canon hood has this felt like material inside the hood that acts like a magnate when it comes to lent, very hard to clean. The Vello is just as good when it comes to quality, and so much more easier to keep clean and neat and at a third of the price compared to the canon lens hood. I highly recommend the Vello. You want be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Liked it better than Canon's Had to replace the Canon lens hood. I found it goes on easier and it's a lot less expensive. Much happier with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from not fancy but adequate and priced well I guess aluminum would give that nice tactical feedback and would be stronger. But if I dropped the camera I'd rather the hood break than have an aluminum hood transfer all the energy to the lens. But I don't plan on dropping it. In the meantime this hood attaches securely and blocks stray light. It was what I needed for the price I wanted to pay.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nearly identical to OEM About the only difference I see between this and the Canon hood is the printing on the top and the Canon has the black fuzz instead of nonreflective plastic on the inside. I bought it because my OEM hood had become very loose fitting and would fall off. Comparing the two side by side I see no reason to pay 3x the money so the hood has Canon written on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality Lens Hood, Less Expensive than OEM I purchased this lens hood as a replacement for the lost Canon Lens Hood on my 70-200 f4. This hood cost several times less than the original Canon OEM, and I like it even more. Looks great and fits quite well. Great construction and quality. The usual excellent B&H service makes it a super deal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a lens hood. Not much to say, really, because it's rather straight forward. Should you need to replace the factory lens hood, this is a good alternative for a fraction of the cost of the Canon brand hood.
