Vello ET-83C overview

  • 1Description

The dedicated Vello ET-83C Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Canon's EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lens. It is primarily used to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of it. A dedicated hood is crafted to perfectly suit the specific focal length of the lens it is designed for. Additionally, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. Also, since the end of the lens is extended, you get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The bayonet mount is designed to also work in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution.

Designed to accommodate the exact angle of view of the camera's lens
Minimizes flare and ghosting by blocking out stray light
Protects your lens from accidental impact and the elements

    Vello ET-83C reviews

ET-83C Dedicated Lens Hood is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent for the price It is a lens hood, not much to say about them. Only two real differences between the Canon and Vello lens hoods: 1) Canon's has the felt on the inside surface where Vello's does not. I have not noticed a difference in image quality, but I doubt Canon would waste the time on the felt on their hoods if it did not help in some way. 2) The Vello was very tight compared to a new Canon hood. It has loosened up a bit, but it is still fairly tight.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for Canon 100-400 IS II Do NOT buy if you have the new Canon 100-400 IS II. It will not really work. So while the price is nice it will not do you any good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Quality Hood I recently acquired a used Canon 100-400mm lens that did not have a hood. So I ordered this to complete the lens setup. Compared to other Canon hoods that I have in my lens kit, this is a solid quality hood. Definitely a great value for the price, and a better deal than spending twice the amount for the actual Canon replacement hood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lens hood This very large lens hood is an important part of the Canon 100-400 mm zoom lens. The factory hood, frankly, had a flimsy feel and proved it by stripping its threads within a few years. This Pearstone substitute is half the price of the Canon hood, fits perfectly, and seems a bit stronger than the Canon hood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for the price The size is nearly identical to the Canon brand. Mounting it on the lens is quite tight now (new) but I assume it will loosen a bit with use. There is no nice flocking on the inside like the Canon but the interior is a flat black plastic. Not a bad lens hood for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good replacement The theads on the original lens hood for Canon's 100-400 lens became stripped after years of use and got to the point where it would not stay on the lens. This replacement fit perfectly and snapped into place and the price was certainly very reasonable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cheaper After Market Lens Hood So far this lens hood functions exactly like the can brand replacement at a little less than half the cost. It will be interesting to see how long it holds up. I got tired of the original falling off all the time when it got loose over time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vello Lens Hood works fine on Canon lens After quite a few years of tough handling, my Canon lens hood cracked. Without a hood, glare is often a problem. This Vello replacement clicks in place for use, and inverts for storage, just like the old one. It's a great replacement.
