Vello EW-78BII overview

  • 1Description

The dedicated Vello EW-78BII Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Canon's EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens. It is primarily used to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of it. A dedicated hood is crafted to perfectly suit the specific focal length of the lens it is designed for. Additionally, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. Also, since the end of the lens is extended, you get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. The bayonet mount is designed to also work in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution.

Designed to accommodate the exact angle of view of the camera's lens
Minimizes flare and ghosting by blocking out stray light
Protects your lens from accidental impact and the elements

    Vello EW-78BII reviews

EW-78BII Dedicated Lens Hood is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 179.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great hood I got this hood mainly because it looks identical to the Canon OEM lens hood and costs $10 less. It does its job of keeping away stray light in viewfinder and photos and I use it all the time with its respective lens. It fits on the lens nice and snug, unlike Nikon hoods (albeit they are included with Nikon lenses) which fit a little to loose, feeling vulnerable to sliding/unscrewing and falling off. I would have given this product 5 stars if not for the (very) slight inconvenience of not aligning very well when being placed in the reverse position. It goes on and off reverse position but it takes a little precision work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Essential Accessory I bought this for my Canon 28-135 and haven't taken it off since. It does a fantastic job of cutting down on lens flair and, most importantly, has protected my lens from what would have been some very serious damage, scratching, or smudging. The most important thing you have to remember is that it does add and additional 2 or 3 inches to your lens and makes it considerably wider at one end, which must be considered when purchasing a camera bag or lens case unless you want to take the hood off every time you pack your camera. The additional weight of the hood also promotes lens creep which, although I could care less, some might think of as a flaw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as good as Canon...and cheaper... Along with the lens cap for my Canon T3i I also lost a relatively cheap lens hood from a different company (tough cruise) :-) Anyway once home I went to B & H, and was going to buy the Canon hood for my 28 - 135mm ultrasonic lens. However, this one seemed just as good, and less money. I read all of the reviews. I can tell you that it works fine, is easy to use, plus it is a better 'fit' than the previous one that I had. Unless you simply must have the hood that says 'Canon' I would go with this one...I have no complaints, it does what I want, and I saved money. I use it it for all outdoor photography. Yeah it's a piece of plastic- but then, most are. So why pay more? I would recommend it...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! The Canon product is identical, and its more expensive. Does exactly what its supposed to do! No need to spend more money on Canon's. =

Rated 4 out of 5 by from perfect for less This is a near perfect swap for the canon hood, but at 5 bucks less. Mounts the same as the canon (not one of those pain in the a%$ thread on types). Even has canon etched on the hood like stock. Can also be reversed on the lens for storage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Lens Hood Very good quality. Nicely crafted. I purchased this for my Canon 50mm lens. The only drawback is that it does not attach to the outside of the lens---it attaches to the inside threading for the lens cap. Now, that is a limitation due to the design of the Canon 50 mm lens (not a problem with Pearstone), as there is no way to attach any lens hood to the outside. This means that you have to store the lens cap separately; you can still invert it and 'store' the lens in the lens hood (but it is not attached).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good I bought the lens hood a few weeks ago. I decided to try an off brand from canon and it seems just fine for the simplicity of the lens hood. Saved some money. It fits and works perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from exact copy of canon hood This vello hood is an exact copy of the canon hood that I had originally. It fits perfectly; there are absolutely no issues whatsoever. I would recommend vello as a replacement any day.
