Vello HB-45 overview

  • 1Description

The dedicated Vello HB-45 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Nikon's 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF-S DX lenses. It is primarily used to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of it. A dedicated hood is crafted to perfectly suit the specific focal length of the lens it is designed for. Additionally, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. Also, since the end of the lens is extended, you get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The bayonet mount is designed to also work in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution.

Designed to accommodate the exact angle of view of the camera's lens
Minimizes flare and ghosting by blocking out stray light
Protects your lens from accidental impact and the elements

    Vello HB-45 reviews

HB-45 Dedicated Lens Hood is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 55.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job at a great price Fits snugly and looks just like the Nikon brand's feel and style. Very good value.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult to place on the Nikon ket lens The push tabs don't function well and make it very difficult to position the hood over the kit lens for my Nikon D5100. I did get it on, but will have some difficulty installing a circular polarizer without going the hasstle of taking the hood off. My previous hood, purched at a local store worked fine untill I bashed it against something during a July vacation. Recommend you get a better product and likely a higher price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little flimsy. While it seems to work well, I'm a little concerned about taking it off my lens that one day I'll crack it. The material is much softer than other hoods I've owned/ used. While I say I would not recommend this hood to a friend, if it was the only option, then any hood is worth having.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light in weight, essential performer I always use lens hoods to protect against stray light and even an occasional bump. I like the weight of this one and the ease with which it attaches to the lens. The solid fit adds strength to the unit. I could feel more secure if the hood and lens were both made of metal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens Hood at a Great Value This lens hood fit my Nikon 18-55mm lens perfectly and is extremely well made. I had previously purchased (and returned) an inferior lens hood for this lens at a local camera shop that cost me the same as this Vello hood WITH expedited shipping from B&H.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What Nikon should have supplied Although plastic, the hood fits perfectly to my lens. Why a lens hood didn't come with Nikon lens is a mystry to me. In my old age the hood does an excellent job. In my younger years, when I was an avid photogarpher, I am not sure it would hold up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No Cigar This imitation of the Nikon HB-45 is close but no cigar. It's kind of flimsy and the attachment/release switches are difficult to operate. It's OK if you are not taking it on & off very often. Spend a few dollars more and get the Nikon item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cheap but Reliable At first I didn't see this lasting long because it felt cheap when putting on and taking off. I have tested it probably over a hundred times now just to see if it would wear prematurely or break and it is still in new condition. Its a go!
