- Won't Vignette When Using a DX Sensor
- Mounts to the Nikon Hood with 8 Screws
- Accepts Cokin X-Pro Filters
Inasmuch as the 14-24 does not have any front threads, the only way to add filtration to the image is with a holder that will accept drop-in filters. To that end, the X-Pro Holder itself does not screw on to the lens but is held in place on the 14-24's hood by a Universal Mounting Ring that has 8 screws which hold it firmly in place. With the Ring secured and attached to the Holder, just drop-in your X-Pro filters and enjoy adding a variety of special effects to your shot.
The included X-Pro Holder is designed to handle filters that are 130mm wide (5"). It is marketed for both prosumer and pro video use and, in general, will accommodate lenses up to 118mm. The kit also comes with a Universal Ring that has been specially created for this lens. The 8 pins are gently tightened around the Nikon Hood, holding it in place.
The Holder is made of a lightweight plastic material that will not add significant weight to the lens nor make it cumbersome. However, what it will do is give you the flexibility to add filtration that will add "snap" to your wide angle shots that will set your images apart from everyone else's.
In addition, Cokin adds their X-Pro Circular Polarizer to the kit that will help you increase the saturation of a blue sky or make those clouds truly stand out. The polarizer will also help when shooting on the water since it will eliminate any reflections - and will do the same for when you shoot against glass.
