    Canon WD-H58W reviews

WD-H58W Wide Converter Lens for Select Canon Cameras is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from good glass big and pro feel about it. comes with a rocking good lens shade that resembles a perfect sized matte box...helpful to differentiate my rig from consumer rigs and also useful to avoid lens flares. sharp picture on canon hf g10 unit. impressed, expensive but solid, gives about a 24mm wide angle view, much more broadcast look, mandatory for good exteriors. minimal bow distortion during first tests. ordered 2pm indiana time, arrived 9am next morning with other gear ordered using the one day ups. altho i use a 5dm2 rig for commercials and corporate videos, the consumer stuff requiring long form video recording with live action focus and exposure assistance makes this a winner on the g10.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from expensive, old glass for PD 150 worked This is a .8 convertor for a camera with an already wide lens. The glass is of excellent quality and works fine. The tread on the camera is very deep and takes concentration and time to fit properly. I bought it because I was in NYC and accessorised my new camera. Prior to this I used the glass from my PD 150, which distorted a little bit but beat spending $$$ on this lens. The lens hood is an add on which makes this lens look more professional. It means it doesn't fit easily into a bag and I've discarded it. Now it looks just like the wide conversion lens from the PD 150 to remind me I was an idiot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect adapter for any type of set-up I own my own video production company and have been using the Canon XA10 for almost two years now. Until I bought this wide angle adapter, I thought the video I was getting looked great (and it did). But after I bought this and put it on my camera the first time, it got me hooked. The picture is much wider than the stock lens and doesn't alter the image that much. It's such a fantastic piece to add to any kit. It's perfect for just about any occasion. I honestly don't see myself not using this lens from now on. I'm glad I finally decided to buy it, because it is definitely worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product I ordered the lens for my newly purchased canon XA10. As the other reviewers have pointed out, there is no ability to put a filter on the lens, which seems odd. The only other things I can add are as follows: 1. There is a lens setting in the menu of the canon camcorders ((as least there is in my XA10), that should be selected for optimum lens performance. The setting is called Lens Converter and it has three options - none, wide converter, and tele-converter. 2. The hood for the lens needs to be put on so that the longest axis of the hood is in a horizontal plane. If it's vertical, then the picture is obscured on each side. The instructions seem to show that it should be put on vertically, but in order to not block out the picture on each side, it must be put on horizontally. As others noted, it is a heavy lens, so you need to ensure it's not on a flimsy tripod, because if it tips over, it could knock over the entire tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality and value for money This wide angled lens adds an extra dimension to my videos enabling me to get shots that are impossible without it. The lens produces crystal clear images and the reduction in light that reaches the sensor is negligible. The lens hood is excellent in reducing stray light reaching the lens. The lens is easy to attach and remove from XA10, XF100 and XF105. Comes with a soft pouch for storage. The lens makes the front of the camera heavier so there is some adjustment in shooting style needed when you fist use it, but it is easy to adapt. Useful for group shots, weddings, stage shows.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it This lens is great, you can zoom from wide to tele with no distortion on a Canon HF G10. There is no vigneting but a little bit of curvature at the widest setting, in a tight place it is invaluable. The front cap can quickly cover the lens even with the shade on. I shot some test HD video, cropped at the 2.35/1 cinemascope ratio, it was spectacular. You will need a lens cleaning pen, the glass is big, dust and fingerprint will show. This lens is expensive but worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Lens gets Impossible shots This lens works like magic in a variety of tough spots. In recent weeks I shot a Canyoneering class in Utah with both Classroom and Outdoor segments. The lens can capture the lecturer and the students even while I was jammed in a corner of a small room with a short jib. In the field I could get the scenery, the climber, and the cliff wall with perfect clarity, no ugly distortion. The most amazing thing was a hallway with a logo and slogan on the wall. In just the width of the hallway, about 5 feet, I got the whole slogan and logo into the shot without panning =) Couldn't believe it. The price is not cheap, but neither is the lens, it's first class. Looks and feels top quality, and will likely spend more time on my XA10 than it does off of it. One of my favorite tools, highly recommended for Indoor classes or offices, Outdoor sports and adventures, Scenic (which is what I do). It is not lightweight, but not overly heavy to me, personally I like the solid feel of the weight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome accessory for Canon Vixia!! I waited too long to make this investment for my Canon Vixia camcorder, but I'm sure glad I finally did. It works great my family videos by allowing me to get a larger field of view while maintaining excellent image quality. However, it is a bit pricing...but still worth every penny. D in AZ
