question
You state that the Vello Folding Pop-Up Diffuser (B&H # VEFD110) will not fit the Nikon D800. Is this - the Vello Universal Pop-Up Diffuser (B&H # VEFD100) the best alternative to diffuse the D800 on camera flash?
Yes, the VEFD100 will fit the D800. You might need to cut part of it. The instructions are at this link.http://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/97054.pdfThere are many others that are very good too,http://bhpho.to/193jKs8http://bhpho.to/1sUQCcm

question
Does this actually slide in to the hot shoe completely? Will it work with a Canon T5i? I've tried a different model that slid in to the hot shoe, and it disabled my flash completely.
On the Canon 7D and 7D II and 450D, it a tab slide into the hot shoe from the rear and a loop fits over the projection of the flash unit on top. If you mean that the flash won't work when you install this device, it may be that the tab is engaging the hard-to-see little pin on the side of the shoe beneath the railing. This pin tells the camera that there is an external flash attached, so the internal flash won't work. If that's the case than you can try several things.1. Push the tab to one side of the shoe mount so it doesn't engage the pin.2. Time the tab just enough on the side where the pin is so it doesn't engage the pin.3. Use the a velcro strip to attach the tab to the back of the flash unit.HTH
