The B+W 58mm MRC 103M Solid Neutral Density 0.9 Filter is an ND filter with an 8x filter factor that provides a 3-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.9 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

58mm MRC 103M Solid Neutral Density 0.9 Filter (3 Stop) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality product pays off I learned the hard way that a Neutral Density filter is not where you want to pinch pennies. The first one I got had a severe purple cast. Even shooting RAW and working it in Photoshop, the results were disappointing. This is a true NEUTRAL density, it has not affected the color of any image so far. The brass fitting makes it feel much sturdier than lenses with aluminum rings. I think this would be the minimum strength of an ND that I would buy, and I intend to get a stronger one soon. I was pleased to see that it came in a good-quality plastic filter case with padded lining. A nice customer service touch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You can't go wrong with B + W. I bought this to use on my older C and C T* Zeiss lenses (via a Bay50 to 58mm step up ring) + any 58mm Canon lenses I purchase in the future like the 85mm f/1.8. If you want to shoot at large apertures while in direct sunlight, an ND filter is the way to go. A 3 stop ND filter is the sweet spot for most of the conditions I find myself in. I always buy the B + W brand because I think it's got exceptional build quality. This is my 4th B + W filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent bokeh tool Use it for outdoor portraits in daylight using strobes. The maximum sync speed of 1/200 sec does not allow for shooting wide open. By using this ND filter you can open up the aperture by 3 stops which gives you creamy, professional looking bokeh. Yes, you can use it for silky smooth waterfalls too. Excellent B+W build. No color cast. Alternatives: Hoya Get one for your fastest lens to maximize effect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Overcast Days It's perfect for overcast days when you still want the aperture wide open but don't want to blow out your subject. It feels solid in your hand and screws on securely. It has front threads so you can screw on your hood. It's clearly marked and comes with a plastic case for secure storage. If there's a color cast then I didn't notice it. Expensive but worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it needs to, and no problem. Dark! Works great. Bought it for my 58mm lens for GH5. I need to use this rarely, but when I do I'm happy to have it. Sometimes I stack it with my polarizing filter. I've had this wet (rain!) and it cleans off easily. Sometimes coatings are more smeary, but I don't have issues with this filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow, what a great filter! I always read that B+W filters were great and this is my first one; It's excellent. I have had filters from other name brands in the past with my film cameras, but none were made like this filter. I took the attached image of a waterfall shortly after getting the filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another good B+W filter Cuts out a few stops in overcast daylight. Not quite enough for shooting video on a f/1.4 lens in sunlight unless you're losing light already. May be best to double up on these, as the 3.0 ND can be overkill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great I spent 2 days in the narrows with this filter permanatnly attached to my lens, it worked great and did everything a polarizer should do.
