B+W 66-1066162 Overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 55mm MRC 106M ND 1.8 Filter is a neutral density filter with a 64x filter factor that provides a {stopcount}-stop exposure reduction. Its 1.8 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. B+W filters are constructed from SCHOTT glass for increased optical clarity. This filter features a brass filter ring for durability as well as to prevent jamming.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great way to shoot wide open in the day I am shooting film, and my camera max out at 1/1000th of a second so I shoot couldn't really open up the lenses during the mid days. I thought of purchasing this ND (6 stops) because it does perfectly what I need. Word of advice though, make sure you buy a filter that will fit all your lenses because these filters aren't cheap and you don't want to buy filter for each lenses. The only problems with this kind of ND filters that I can think of is because the filter cuts out about 6 stops of light, during the day time it could be a bit difficult to see through the viewfinder, and see if my metering is correct, but thats something you just have to deal with when it comes to ND filters with this much stops. There are other brands or risk of fakes much cheaper but I just went for this because its real quality brand, and its the only expensive I bought so far but everyone knows B+W are great. There are also those variable ND filters that you can make it go from 2-8 stops but I've read that there is 2 piece (Polarizer) of glass that does this, and I don't think I like this idea. The 6 stops is just perfect for me because when my camera tops at 1/1000th of a second, and I want to shoot around f/1.2-f/2 its perfect, and the speed of film I use are 100-400 so it works for me. This the MRC version, so cleaning is easy. I wish they had made more of those nano coatings though for more filters. Lastly, when mine came everything seems new, but when I open the box, the filter had some alcohol cleaning marks. It probably wasn't B+H fault but B+W's fault. I bought the last one from B+H, so I am assuming at the factory of B+W they missed cleaning it fully with this one, but B+H came me a discounted price so thats great.
