B+W 65-1066176 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 72mm SC 110 Solid Neutral Density 3.0 Filter is an ND filter with a 1,000x filter factor that provides a 10-stop exposure reduction. Its 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes one layer of anti-reflection coating. B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

    B+W 65-1066176 reviews

72mm SC 110 Solid Neutral Density 3.0 Filter (10 Stop) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Short of expectations I have been using this to shoot seascapes. It certainly works in terms of stopping the light but it has massive vignetting and a noticeable magenta cast. Both issues can be corrected in processing but it is a hassle. Furthermore after only a couple of outings I can see there are marks on the filter that look like coatings are coming off. I have plenty of other B&W filters and am very happy with them but this has disappointed me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad red shift color cast! I am not sure how much those that posted reviews have actually tested this filter. The red shift color cast is very bad. Not as bad as the Tiffen, but bad enough it really can't be easily corrected. Consumers need better information regarding the color casts with these black filters! Here is a decent website comparing a few of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid ND Filter for Long Exposure Photos I purchased this a little whiles back in order to aid in my long exposure photography. I heard about this particular filter from a Scott Kelby video, who stated that the filter could be used to gain exposure times of 2 minutes during the day time. I found that a little peculiar, but decided to give it a try to see if it was true. During the daytime, even with cloud cover, the maximum exposure I could get without blowing out the picture was around 45 seconds. A pretty long time, but not as long as Mr. Kelby claimed it would be. I'm not sure what exact conditions Mr. Kelby was shooting under, but I don't think his numbers are correct. I do love using this filter for sunrise and sunset long exposure photography though. The build quality is excellent and I would recommend it to individuals who are looking for other tools to aid their long exposure photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Job - as always. I have used the 77mm version of this previously and found it to be durable (i even dropped it in a river by mistake) and gave great outcomes (super silky water, dramatic skies, etc) with long exposures. My good experiences meant I bought it again in this size. No faults to my eye.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Major change from an 8-stop filter Only used it a couple of times so far, to shoot waterfalls. I was worried that it would make the viewfinder too dark to let me focus. I was right, but it was no trouble at all with live view. A 30 s exposure gives some nice blur - just make sure the trees aren't blowing around too much in the breeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product worked as expected Bought this filter at the last minute before 2012 Annular Solar Eclipse and they B&H overnighted to me. The package arrived as expected and in good condition. The filter threaded easily to the front of my Opteka lens. Camera was Canon Rebel XS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely buy this again I do some long exposure and I want to do more of it. This ND filter works extremely well for that purpose. I received the product very quickly and in great shape. I will definitely be ordering more filters from this site in future.
