B+W 66-1066181 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 58mm MRC 110M Solid Neutral Density 3.0 Filter is an ND filter with a 1,000x filter factor that provides a 10-stop exposure reduction. Its 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

    B+W 66-1066181 reviews

58mm MRC 110M Solid Neutral Density 3.0 Filter (10 Stop) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent 10 stop ND filter This filter does everything a 10-stop filter should with a minimum of hassle. If you are reading this review you probably already know why photographers use many-stop ND filters so I won't bother describing that aspect. I have noticed a brownish color cast with this filter, however long exposures tend to mess up color balance regardless. Shoot in raw and the color cast is easily correctable. Since most other many-stop filters exhibit similar color cast issues, I won't drop the rating for that shortcoming. Unlike other brands who shall remain nameless, B+W multicoating seems to shed dust and moisture easily and cleans up with minimal smearing which is great when you are operating in averse weather conditions or are being covered by waterfall mist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter Once I got the exposure times right with this filter (and that didn't take long), the images that it produced were fantastic. It was a little fiddly screwing it onto my lens but you have to expect that with a thread filter. I have used the ND filter in both cloudy and sunny applications and the sharpness and, in particular, the colours were great. It's the first ND filter I've owned and couldn't be more pleased with the results. It really takes landscape photography, particularly with water, to the next level.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I expected and more This filter is great for doing long exposures during the daytime. B&H's service is great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top quality filter I'm using this like most people are ... to take longer exposures in brighter light. In particular to smooth out water motion. So far the results have been as hoped. Since it is a multi-coated filter there is no ghosting or image quality degradation. I recommend B+W MRC filters for all your filter needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! The filter works great. I use it for long exposures on my old Mamiya 645 Super. It's a great way to make those silky smooth water shots and moody skies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does its job as advertised I only use this filter to take long exposures at the beach. It does exactly what I want to get from it especially when photographing the ocean. It is too strong of a filter to use for waterfalls, or other fast moving water. I recommend using this filter early morning, late afternoon, even early evening. Also try it during midday on a bright sunny day to produce a distinct b&W image

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Picture quality is good except the purple-ish tint. Build quality is good. Photographs taken through the filter are sharp and of good quality. However, the filter is not truly "neutral", which was expected, since the photographs get a significant purple-ish tint which has to be offset in post-production. Although I don't know how much money you must spend for an ND filter for it to be truly color neutral.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Neutral Density Filter 3.0 I'm very pleased with my B/W 3.0 ND filter, it performs as asked. Now if only my skill level and ,or camera was capable of making the most of this fine piece of hardware. I'm experiencing 'noise' level increase with the longer exposure times. But with practice I will no doubt see improvement... B.T.
