CAD Stage4 Reviews
Tune your kit, these'll do.
I've used these mics on numerous home recordings and EP/LP/single recordings for my band and friends' bands. The tom mics don't sound nearly as good as something like an AKG C214 or, more applicably, a Sennheiser e604, but they cost WAY less. Essentially a $$ microphone that can sound really solid with a tuned and dampened kit. Some people will tell you to buy two nice condensers and a kick mic to get great drum tones on a budget - I've tried out CAD M179s in a Glyn Johns formation with a D112 on the kick, and while that might sound a little better, this kit is cheaper and sounds incredibly solid.PRACTICE TO A METRONOME A LOT, TUNE YOUR KIT, DAMPEN YOUR KIT, HIT RECORD, ENJOY FUN.The CAD C9S is a viable overhead mic. There is another CAD pack that includes a pair. Definitely doable. This set is perfect for beginners, but only if you put the time into preparation and production.
Cheap and all but does the job
I generally never record drums in my project studio, so I didn't wanna spend a lot of money on fancy mics. I bought this set and I have to say that they sound very acceptable. I ended up replacing the snare and kick sounds any way, but even that was not so difficult as the transients were captured nicely by these mics.
