Manfrotto 057 overview

  • 1Description

The Manfrotto 057 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Rapid Column is a heavy-duty tripod that's intended for use with video cameras and large still cameras. With a 39.7 lb load capacity, the lightweight carbon fiber leg tubes of the 057 tripod provide rigid support even under a considerable amount of weight.

The tripod's rapid center column has a non-rotating, three-faceted design for increased system stability. To enable extremely low-angle shooting, you can unscrew the center-post collar, remove the center column, and attach the collar directly to the included low-angle adapter (through the chassis). With this method the 057 tripod can achieve a minimum height of 9".

The round carbon fiber legs feature user-adjustable flip locks to free and secure the leg stages. An included key for tightening the flip locks attaches to a leg for ever-ready access. With both the legs and the center column fully extended, the tripod reaches height of 80.7".

Retractable spikes in feet
Bubble level near bottom of center column
Screw locks for tightening a tripod head to the center-post collar

    Manfrotto 057 reviews

057 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Rapid Column is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite all around tripod for architectural work I ran a couple of quick tests between the Manfrotto 057 and a RRS TVC-34L where I shot a 2 sec exposure with a 135 f/2 lens on a Canon 5DS R during the exposure I vibrated the tripods to simulate windy conditions. Both tripods were extended fully with with the center columns also fully extended. The Manfrotto produced noticable less motion blur every time. I repeated the test 4 or 5 times, because the RRS is so dang fancy I thought it had to beat the clunky Manfrotto. For the work I do (architecture and product) I am in love with this tripod. It's a beast, but it goes high and produces sharp photos in the toughest conditions that I find myself in: fully extended center column in windy conditions. I also LOVE the clips. I find them much faster to adjust than the twist locks. As I am constantly moving and adjusting the tripod during my shoots this is important to me - may not matter to some. If you need something lightweight, look elsewhere...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It got very Grate performance ! I used very famous trippod.(Made in French) However this tripod was weak to use on Hokkaidoin Winter(Look like Alaska). So what happened? My experience. It was too cold, and the screw of the leg has been frozen hard. During a photography trip, I was held to carry it with being much longer tripod. But, Manfrotto is useing Quick release syatem. It was not frozen in Winter. and 057Serise is much heavy duty. There is the strength that does not lose in my 645 systems, the height is perfect, and Weight is light class.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Massive and Solid Bought this tripod because I was looking to buy ONE tripod. One that had some weight savings and most of all, stability. This tripod meets or surpasses all of that as it's the most massive and beefy tripod I've ever seen. 4-sections and aluminum center post can raise your camera up beyond your reach! Very solid construction, tho like most Manfrotto gear, not the most refined feeling stuff. Legs don't rotate, magnesium and carbon fiber, Italian styling all add up to a true beast of a tripod. Very flexible, too. If you want a tripod that you can practically sit on, this is the one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock Solid... I've been shooting with the Manfrotto 057 4-section fast column/057 head with RC4 release combo for about a week now, and my images became suddenly sharper...I was getting visible vibration upon shutter actuation with my old tripod, which was not really the fault of the tripod; It just wasn't built to carry the weight I was asking it to. WELL, I figured I'd get the biggest leg/head set Manfrotto made, and this combo sure does the trick. No more vibrations...and the build quality is top-notch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Covers a lot of bases I recently had to upgrade to get the extra height needed to photograph overhead on a table. This tripod did a great job, super steady and a monster. It's not light by any means, so if you're thinking carbon fiber here is going to help with that forget it. But if you're looking for a professional grade large tripod with both height and low angle options, this is the ticket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Probably more tripod than I need This tripod is very solid and can be set up to be very tall. I am about 5'11 and don't usually extend the bottom section and still don't have to bend at all to look through my viewfinder. I have a Nikon D5100 with a Sigma 150-500 on a gimbal head. This tripod is probably a little overkill for my setup but it handles it well and I could also use it if I ever get a heavier lens and camera combination. The tripod is heavier than I expected for carbon fibre, I can't imagine what an aluminum version would be like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes I would recommend buying this product I shoot a lot of wildlife and recently upgraded to a 600 MM lens. My recent Manfratto tripod was good up to 20 # and was concerned about handling the weight of 18# including camera base. I reviewed the ratings and everyone was right about the weight and sturdiness of this tripod. I will feel a very comfortable using this tripod and do not have any problems with the weight. I have lost a lens to another tripod manufacturer that cost five times the tripod. I do not plan on making that mistake again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A tank Used this tripod for panoramic photography, indoor and outdoor commercial, and playing with old Sinar Norma large format rail camera. In many things, it is very solid. The girth of the legs when you first see it is surprising, and the steadiness when set up makes you confident that this will be a very stable platform. Matched with a good head and you can be confident that this thing will perform.I never had to extend it all the way out, and since I have the 4 part legs that is a bit of a waste but its nice to know that the extra height is there if I ever find myself that one time I needed it.I don't care for the feet at the bottom though. The metal spikes could surely be used to some effect outdoors but when the rubber feet are on there they make you wonder if how stable that bit really is. That said I never had any issues with them and they are not easy to accidentally unscrew off so I am not worried that they will fall off and get lost one day. Also there is a little plastic attachment that does on a leg that holds the wrench to tighten the hex bolts. That thing fell off almost immediately. Also this tripod did not come with a bag, and because its so big finding a bag for it has been hard.Sure I would not want to carry this on a all day trek but it might be worth it since this really is about as stable a platform as you can find for your cameras.
