Vello RFW-CR overview

  • 1Description

The FreeWave Fusion Receiver Only (For Canon) from Vello is a receiver for the versatile FreeWave Fusion kit that controls off-camera lights from up to 320 feet away. You can use this receiver to trigger additional groups of off-camera flashes and/or studio lights. You'll need the FreeWave Fusion Remote Control kit (available separately) to activate lights using this receiver. Alternatively, when using the FreeWave Fusion as a camera remote control, this extra receiver will allow you to trigger multiple cameras instantaneously.

Note: Since the FreeWave Fusion does not transmit TTL settings, use of a flash or light unit with full manual control is recommended. You will need to set the power output manually.

The FreeWave Fusion is compatible with most cameras, flash units and studio lights. However, for flash wake-up functionality and/or high shutter speeds, you will need full Canon TTL support via your camera, flash and FreeWave Fusion trigger.

For FreeWave Fusion System
Extra Receiver for the FreeWave Fusion kit.
Versatile
Receiver works with multiple camera and light models. Just swap out the connecting camera release cables (available separately).
Flash Wake-Up
Simply depress the trigger button on the transmitter half-way to pull the flash out of "sleep-mode". Sleep mode allows the flash to power down in between shooting sessions to extend battery life. The wake-up function is only available when used as part of a complete Canon TTL system. 1

    Vello RFW-CR reviews

FreeWave Fusion Receiver Only (For Canon) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low price, great performance. I started with a single receiver and transceiver (trigger). Loved them. They work with most of my flashes (will not work with my 430EX II, but most of my triggers don't), and even works with my thirty year old Canon A-1 and Vivitar 3500 Zoom Thyristor flashes. They were so reliable, I got this setup, with a transceiver and two receivers. I place one trigger on my 6D and the other on my 5D and can set up three off camera flashes (four, if I use an optical slave as well). It has helped me in some very precarious lighting situations, such as dimly lit churches and gymnasiums. They are easy to use, quick and painless to set up, and anyone can do it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inexpensive Remote Manual Flash Solution I am using this receiver with both 430EXII and 580EXII flashes in their MANUAL mode together with the companion Vello FreeWave Fusion Transmitter. The receiver works very well, however the range is more like about 100 feet (30 meters) in open air, not the 100 meters claimed by Vello, hence my 4 star rating. The receiver appears well made. A major advantage is that it uses inexpensive AAA batteries. The availability of 3 seperate flash groups that can be independently or simultaneously fired is also a major advantage. The remote will synch flash at 1/200 second shutter speed with a Canon 5D Mark II camera.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works Great But... Units work as promised but BE CAREFUL. I snapped the plastic hotshoe off the receiver and you have to buy the entire unit?! You cannot replace the hotshoe. Found out directly from vello. Sent them photos and everything. Snapping off the chincy plastic hotshoe is gonna cost you $. You get what you pay for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the Job This item works great. I have used them for sometime now. Mostly indoors. They have worked flawless. This is not a pocket-wizard of course , but for the price, it is a great device. I use it mostly indoors though, the one time that I used it outdoors at the beach , there were at least a couple of shots where it did not fire. It is inconclusive though because I could not prove if it was the fault of this device itself or something else was the matter in those two shots. but again for the price. I dont know any other better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from wireless camera sync I bought these to sync multiple cameras and a flash. They work great when they work. I get about 70% perfect sync with strobes at 1/125 shutter speed. Which for the price, works for most of my purposes. I will probably spend a little more cash and try to get something with a bit higher success rate. They work great when using only one camera and multiple flashes. I just happen to be doing something on the non-traditional side of things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always Ready When You Are I shoot portraits in a wide variety of situations. On the beach, in a cavernous furniture warehouse, on the edge of busy streets in front of store signage. With the FreeWave Fusion Receiver on each speedlight, I NEVER have a doubt that it is all systems go. I can place lights as creatively as I want knowing each flash will fire when I want them to. That's a great feeling. Well worth the cost and recycle time is fast and flawless.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as Advertised I own 3 of those and use them both outdoors and in the studio. It is a good and reliable product. It really fires speedlight from 100 meters if there are no obstacles between transmitter and receiver. I give it 4 stars because of the price. Competitors are cheaper and I think just as good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with product This is the third one I purchased. Now, I am able to trigger three flashes at the same time.I have used them a lot for portrait photography. It has been a few months since I purchased and I did not have any disappointments. I am really happy with the purchase.
