Sony VPL-FH500L overview

  • 1Description

With 7000 lumens and a 2500:1 contrast ratio, the Sony VPLFH500L Display Projector possesses the image power to project vivid, saturated pictures in a variety of lighting situations. Sony's 3 LCD System BrightEra Inorganic Panel offers brighter and more vivid images with full high definition resolution.

Sony's BrightEra technology improves and maintains color purity throughout the life of the system by protecting the LCD panels against harmful ultra violet light. Clever features such as dual auto-switching lamps, and synchronized lamp and filter replacement cycles, reduce maintenance costs and downtime. The unit is a dual lamp designed and synchronized lamp and filter replacement effectively halves the number of visits needed to maintain the projector in peak operating condition.

Featuring the usual wide range of inputs, an external monitor connection for the presenter's convenience, and advanced projection capabilities such as side-by-side image projection and DICOM medical training, the VPL-FH500L is the projector of choice for venues that demand the highest quality in the most practical, flexible form.

It is no secret that the Sony VPLFH500L Display Projector is brighter and better than ever with a compilation of numerous Sony proprietary technologies.

Lens Not Included!

3LCD XGA BrightEra Panel Technology
Sony's BrightEra Panel Technology gives more accurate color rendition, higher brightness and longer lifespan for a lower total cost of ownership
Ultra High Resolution
The VPL-FH500L's WUXGA (1920 x 1200) 16:10 format resolution delivers absolute best image quality
Ultra High Brightness: 7000 Lumens Color Light Output
With ultra high brightness of 7000 lumens color light output, the VPL-FH500L gives a very clear image in high ambient light, making it highly suitable for larger venues
Wide Lens Shift Range
Vertical: +/-113%, Horizontal: +/- 63% (depending on optional lens)
The VPL-FH500L's wide lens shift range means that the projector can be positioned closer to the ceiling, or horizontally offset to avoid ceiling obstacles
Interchangeable Lenses: PX30, PX40, FX50, FH300
The VPL-FH500L allows you to choose the characteristics of the projector's optics by selecting from a range compatible with previous models
Dual Lamp Capacity, Auto-Switched, Giving Effective 6000-8000 Hours (High/Std) Lamp Life
When a lamp reaches the end of its life, there's no downtime: the projector automatically switches to a second lamp, already in place, doubling the effective lamp life and halving the number of maintenance visits required, yielding lower total cost of ownership
Lamp/Filter Replacement Cycles Synchronized
Synchronized lamp and filter replacement effectively halves the number of visits needed to maintain the projector in peak operating condition. (Filters are provided with replacement lamp)
Side by Side Image Projection
Side by side twin image gives you the ability to project from two inputs (RGB + any other input) at the same time, making the projector ideal for applications like video conferencing and DICOM medical training
DICOM GSDF Simulation
The VPL-FH500L offers DICOM GSDF Simulation (HDMI with computer signals), which conforms to GSDF (Grayscale Standard Display Function) of medical standards for DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine)
Wide Range of Image Adjustments
This wide range of image adjustments allows the projector to be installed in almost any location. Where equipment is being upgraded, installers are more likely to be able to use existing mounts. In new installations, they are more likely to be able to work around existing obstructions
User Panel Alignment
Pixel alignment shifts the entire image or desired range (H: 16 X V: 10 pixels) for complete color correction
Color Matching
The VPL-FH500L offers brightness and color matching adjustment to the original image for complete image accuracy
Lower Operating Power Consumption
Lower operating power consumption helps reduce energy consumption and lowers running costs

    Sony VPL-FH500L reviews

VPLFH500L Display Projector is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from 2x the lamp, interface connection issues I have the single lamp version of this baby that outputs 5200 ANSI lumen of bightness measured at the screen, and uses a single UHP lamp. Now, with 1x lamp you get 5200 ANSI brightness... with the 2x lamps used in this model, you get 7000. That is, 1800 more lumens for 2x the lamp costs. Sony is the ONLY PJ mfr I know of that has this problematic design of having all the inputs go to the FRONT PANEL of the projector, congregating around the lens. The lens area is usually the last place where you want to be poking about with your hands, plugging in an unplugging all the cables, but that is how Sony does it. You have to be very careful not to touch the lens when you do cable inserting and dismounting, and you have to make sure somehow that the cables will not kink right front of the lens. This is really a zero rationale design -- again, I am not aware of any other PJ mfr who does it this way, the interface panel is either on the side or the rear panel with the others. Lens prices are quite high for the Sony PJs in my opinion vis-a-vis some of the competition.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stay far far away Excellent picture. Everything else is a mess. Control via ip ONLY if you use internet exploder on a windows machine. This is stupid. When working properly, control is sloppy. the programmer should be fired over this implementation. Control via PJ-net, a free sony app that only runs on windows and only if the projector and the windows computer are on the same subnet. Huh? This also is just stupid. The projector broke within weeks, requiring a trip to Laredo Texas to repair. It just broke again. Sony will probably send a tech by to try to fix it, but already my reputation at work is in the dumps. Any brand would be better than this one. If I had it to do again, with the same budget, I'd be looking at Panasonic. Canon projectors at this price point look OK, but they couldn't provide the proper lens for a 40 foot throw. Any other brand I'd consider. Right now I'm just furious. Stay away from any projector with the name Sony on it. Any brand at this price point would likely be a better deal in a professional environment than this one. I don't hate the company, they make fine cameras, and we own a dozen or so EX1s and EX3s. Sony LCD monitors are also reliable and great looking. We are planning on buying new Sony Hi Def cameras next year. But their projector division is very problematic. Stay away from Sony branded projectors, or you'll regret it. I sure do.
