Key Features
  • Fit Lenses with 77mm Filter Thread
  • Designed for Internal Focus Lenses
  • For Lens Above 20mm (Full Frame Cameras)
  • For Lens Above 15mm (APS-C Size Cameras)
The Vello 77mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood (Version II) is designed to fit lenses with a 77mm filter thread. The hood is designed for use with internal focus type zoom lenses. When used with "full frame" sensor cameras, the starting focal length should be above 20mm. With "APS-C" sensor cameras, the starting focal length should be above 15mm. With wider lenses, especially on full frame cameras, some slight vignetting might occur.

The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage with the minimum amount of weight and hood area. In addition, the design of this hood allows it to be reversed and stored on the lens, when not in use. It is also designed to accept lens caps.

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens, by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The quality for the price is fair, I just didn't really love this product.

Working just as advertised for me. Easy to install and is not only helpful with unwanted glare, but also serves as protection from bumps or drops. This nifty little gadget is a excellent for anyone with a lens that has a 77mm filter thread. First off, it is well-designed. The petal shape really stands out by providing maximum coverage without adding bulk. It’s lightweight and sleek, which is perfect when you're on the go and need to keep your gear minimal. Plus, it fits like a glove on internal focus type zoom lenses. Just pinch the 2 tabs and insert which is very easy and effective. Having it attach this way also saves a lot of time when installing, as opposed to having to screw it on. It also seems well made. The plastic seems like it will last a long time. For those using full frame cameras, it is suggested to keep your starting focal length above 20mm to avoid any vignetting. If you’re on an APS-C sensor camera, you're good to go above 15mm. It’s super versatile and works like a charm across different setups. One of my favorite features is that the hood is reversible for storage. You can just flip it around and leave it on the lens when not in use. No more fumbling around trying to find a place to stash it! It even accepts lens caps, which is a small but nice feature that makes a big difference in convenience. Beyond just improving your photos by preventing stray light, it adds an extra layer of protection for your lens. Whether you’re out in the field or just moving your gear around, having that little bit of extra security is always reassuring. Overall, the Vello 77mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood is working very well for me. It’s practical, well-designed, and makes your life easier. Yes, you can attach the Vello 77mm snap-on lens hood to the front threads of a 77mm filter rather than the lens directly!

Hello, Is this compatible with a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED Lens?
Asked by: David
The Vello 77mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood (Version II) will fit on the Nikon 20mm f/1.8 lens, but it is not optically matched to any specific lens. Therefore, the Vello hood might vignette the image or allow a flare more often than the original Nikon hood. So, the following Nikon hood would be the recommended replacement: the Nikon HB-72 Lens Hood for AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED. See: https://bhpho.to/3EpWTy8.
