B+W 66-1066110 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 72mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007 Filter is a simple, clear filter with a 1x filter factor and is designed to provide general protection for your lens. This optically clear filter does not affect overall image quality while helping to reduce dust, scratches, moisture, and other elements from damaging your lens. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.8% light transmission, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The Nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features a thin brass filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting while enhancing durability and jamming prevention. To further reduce the possibility of vignetting while using this filter, the filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size. This may prevent the use of some lens manufacturer bayonet hoods.

    72mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007 Filter is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 76.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good as any clear filter but... I bought this 72mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-007 filter for Fujinon 10-24mm. Like 58mm MRC-007 filter, they work well. Filter glass is slippery so it is easy to clean (at least while new. Have to wait and see if it will stay that way in a year or two). Only 'comment' I would make is that, these filters being slim design, Fuji lens cap is little fiddly to attach after shoot, especially with hood in place. You sort of have to be firm and place the cap on 'flat'. Otherwise it is not clipped on properly and you could drop the cap. Small stuff but it might benefit other Fuji shooters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the price Purchased to protect my Zeiss 85 prime lens. Everything about the filter, from packaging to weight to clarity of the glass, screams quality. I preferred the clear filters over haze filters (010) simply because I want to ensure the colors are as true to form as possible. Sure, using the lens without the filter would offer the best possible image quality, but accidents do happen and I much rather replace the filter than my lens. The filter is pricy for what it is, but a good quality clear filter is truly worth the price. I have not seen any significant decrease in image quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alternative to UV Filter Acting on the advice of a friend who's forgotten more about photography than I will ever learn, I've replaced the UV filter I was using with the lenses I use with my 35mm 1V with this one. I can't honestly say that I can see a difference in the photos, yet anyway. But the filter is a quality item and earns 5 stars for that alone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter Just bought this with a Canon 135L lens and i was quite surprised how clear the filter was, in fact at first site i did not think there was any glass at all; it is that transparent. the build quality is typical B+W. with that said i have decided to swap out all my protective filters on all my L lenses. bob

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality and works as advertised. I've purchased the B+W line of filters for all of my lenses (4). This one went on my Canon 50 1.2L. This was the first variation I've used in the Nano series. It is a bit thinner while retaining the ability to keep the lens cover attached firmly (like the thicker rimmed types). Of course the glass is completely clear meaning holding it up to the light it's barely noticeable there is glass between the metal ring! I selected the clear glass as a sole means of front lens element protection. BH and it's quick shipping methods were great as usual!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it is supposed to do I use these UV filter on all of my lenses in order to protect the front element. In the past, I have mostly used Hoya multi-coated UV filters, but went with B+W this time. The filter is well made, very thin, and smoothly screws on the end of my Sony FE 70-200mm F/4 G OSS lens. I've taken off one star because I found some kind of hair or fiber stuck in between the glass and the metal filter mount. Perhaps someone in Germany at B+W has thinning hair??? In any case, I had to break it off and remove it with a pair of watchmaker's forceps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear instead of UV 'clear' The discussion of to filter or not to filter is as heated as Canon vs the other guy ... I'm giving a clear filter a try rather than a UV. I use my lenses on film cameras as well so putting them off and on is even less practical for my in the field shooting style. As others have noted, this model is very clear and my new pinch Canon caps stay put.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful There are basically three reasons I bought B+W MRC Nano clear filter; the brass contruction (to prevent jamming of threads), and high quality quality, and finally front threads. There are many multi-coated filters out there that are in thin mounts, but none of them have front threads to screw in additional accessories. B+W's design was the only one that some how fit front threads, and still maintain a minimal, thin profile. I replaced my Hoya multicoated filters with these B+W filters. I am pleased with the product!
