OWC / Other World Computing OWCMMP35T25 reviews

2.5" Drive Sled for 2009-2012 Apple Mac Pro is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect fit, except the mounting screws I purchased this to mount my SSD into a MacPro. Please note that the screws that come with this sled do not fit the OWC SSD 3G drive. The OWC drive has metric threads not American. I contacted OWC about the problem and they sent me a replacement set which also do not fit. I contacted OWC support, again, and they said the screws were correct and that I must not be doing something correctly on my end. So, not wanting to cross-thread my drive, I took it to the local hardware store and discovered that the correct screw for the OWC drive & this sled is a M3 .50 size. They are a perfect fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality at a reasonable price I did small upgrade on my 2009 -2010 5,1 and rather than fiddle with snot and hairpins to install an SSD I came across this product . Works perfectly and is pretty much idiotproof. 4 screws and you are done. Slides in better than the OEM Apple sleds in my opinion and the alternate colour does make a difference when you want to see which bay you have the SSD in. Very rigid and well made and at a super cheap price. I found cheaper ones that would need to attach to the OEM sled but not convinced the pins would line up. For a few bucks more you get the quality OWC is known for. I bought two and will be upgrading the second mac pro shortly. If you have an older macpro this is a great idea.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used for 2008 Mac - Had to Modify I knowingly bought this for my 2008 mac although the review state its for 2009. Therefore I can't give it less than 5 stars. The rails fit in fine with the 2008 mac however the handle part sticks out about an inch causing interference with putting the slide panel back on. Once I had it fitted into place i used a cutting knife and scored a line where i would need to cut the excess off. I used an angle grinder and cut off enough so that I could remount the SSD drive and close the lid.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from wrong size I'm sure this is a great product but if you have a MacPro from 2008, this will be too long for your machine. Your door won't close. Searching for another size lead me to a completely different design. Something not made specifically for Apple Mac Pros but something made to make a 2.5 drive fit into a 3.5 box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does The Job I buy OWC products regularly and have no issues outside of normal age-related failures. I looked for this sled specifically on their site to confirm they make it. I bought it from B&H as it was in stock. I purposely bought an OWC made sled because I know it is exactly what I need. No makeshift plastic garbage with the screw holes misaligned or anything. My dual Xeon MacPro runs better than new. This product deserves nothing but praise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great But? It does the job for what is designed for. SSD mounts easily with the provided screws to the sled and then you just slide the SSD in to the drive compartment. One thing I did not know was my 2012 Mac Pro does not provide fast enough connection to make the full use of SSD read and write speed! if you need to make your SSD work at it fastest read &write capability then you need to connect the SSD via some other board to PCIE port.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Slick Drive Sled That Works I have a 5 year old mid-2010 Mac Pro dual quad-core as a video editing platform that started having compatibility issues with Adobe CS5.5 Premiere Pro, a failing graphics card and a 1 TB HDD on it's last leg. I opted to upgrade the processors to dual 3.46 six-core processors, run a MacVidCard flashed Nvidia GTX 780 6 GB graphics card, bump up from 24 GB RAM to 32 GB RAM, and go from OS X Lion to Mavericks. The final internal upgrade was to install a Crucial 1 TB SATA SSD for my primary OS system, applications and storage and a second Crucial 500 GB SATA SSD for current video projects and media. I chose to use the OWC 2.5 Drive Sled. Super slick product that works well. Final results: very fast and extremely stable editing platform. Well worth the money. I plan on adding a third 2.5 OWC Drive Sled to hold another Crucial SSD when money permits for additional storage of projects. Couldn't be happier with the results!
